I saw this on PBS not too long ago.
It featured an older couple. It was only the two of them (I'm pretty sure the entire episode) and took place in their house. The show was centered on the dialogue between the two of them- the comedic exchange. The electricity goes out and she tries reading while he tries to keep himself busy. Can you help name this sitcom and the episode ? Thanks. |

Two possibilities that I can think of. There was a similiarish episode of One Foot In The Grave, or it might be an episode of George And Mildred (the spin off of the British version of Three's Company). I can't think of many more sitcoms that are about older people specifically, except Last Of The Summer Wine, which wouldn't be just about one couple in bed; Waiting For God; and As Time Goes By (which again would be unlikely to have one episode just about the couple in bed).

I researched about One Foot in the Grave, but it says that episode took place only in the bedroom.
This show's episode definitely had other rooms. I think it started out in the living room. It starts out with them having a comical conversation for a bit, then the electricity goes out. She is reading and he still talks to her before he goes to do something else. |

The more I look the more I think it is an episode of "One Foot in the Grave."
It may be "Timeless Time," though I thought it took place partly in the living room. All I know for sure is that the electricity went out. Anyone? |

I'm pretty sure it's "As Time Goes By", 'cos that's the most played British sitcom on PBS, I think.

It is One Foot in The Grave.
This is the episode description that matches what I saw: 4. THREATENING WEATHER - Plunged into darkness after a power outage on a sweltering summer night, Victor has nothing better to do than fire off a litany of complaints from faulty lampshades to humankind in general. (34) |

It definitely sounds like One Foot....I've seen that episode, too.
I love the series. IMO, it's one of the best British sitcoms ever made, but it does tend to get a bit overlooked for reasons I can't fathom at all. Victor Meldrew is a hero raging against all the things most of us (young and old) rage against (or would secretly like to). One of my favourite episodes is called 'The Beast In The Cage' where Victor, Margaret and Mrs. Warboys are stuck in a traffic jam on a motorway on a Bank Holiday - and that's where they stay for 30 mins of brilliance - the acting is fantastic, the script hilarious and very touching. |
