I always thougth it was strange that Carol's parents never appeared on the show after the wedding episode. They seemed like nice characters and I feel would have been an interesting addition to the series later on.

Yes they did seem like nice characters. What is weirder is Carol (Florence Henderson ) played the kids Grandmother which is really strange. In the same episode Robert Reed played Grandpa Brady. Then the most bizzare part is they got together at the end. Sometimes I think the writers were on drugs.

Just to clarify, Florence Henderson played the kids' great-grandmother, Connie Hutchins, in that episode. Connie was Carol's grandmother. And Judge Henry Brady, played by Robert Reed in that episode, was the kids' great-grandfather. The characters in the pilot were Carol's parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Tyler.
I read that Carol's parents were originally intended to be recurring characters, but Sherwood Schwartz felt that there were enough characters as it was. |

Too bad. It would have been nice to see them once in awhile.

Hey I'm Danielle. I'm usually at the Cheers boards, but saw this one and since I love the Brady Bunch I decided I'd come here.
It is weird how their parents were in the one episode, but no others. And if they had ended up getting married, wouldn't that be illegal for Mike & Carol. I mean, they'd be... stepsiblings (??? or something like that)! Maybe it's just me... |

You are right. I never paid attention to that. I always thought it was just the regular grandparents. |

I always thought it was strange that Carol's grandmother and Mike's grandfather only appeared once, especially since they apprarently lived nearby. Why didn't they every come over for dinner? They could have attended one of the Brady kids' several school performances.

Carol's parents are mentioned a couple of times during the first season. When Jan is allergic to Tiger, that is where Tiger was going to live. And when Marcia gets grounded from the big ski trip because she snuck out the window to mail the Father of the Year entry form, Carol tells her that she will have to spend the weekend with her grandparents. Maybe they moved away after season one.

probably the main reason that these characters were never added as regulsrs, or even as semi-regulars was that there was already more than the avereage amount of cast members on this show that earned a full salary. Also, due to the fact that this show was not very successful until syndication, producers probably did not have the money to bring on two more regulars to the show.
