"Catcher in The Rye"? I got it today from the library (sp?) and I want to know if it's any good.

Thanks.

Good book. Read it in High School. Enjoy.

I read the first quarter of it in summer school several years back. I sort of liked it but I can't really say for sure until I've read the whole book.

Great, great book. One of my favorites. It's a very easy read, and really relatable if you're around 16-17 years old.

Kristen
PS-You did spell "library" right, in case you were wondering.

Isn't that the book that that moron Mark David Chapman was into before he assassinated John Lennon?

I've been meaning to get Catcher in the Rye from our school library or public library for a while now- but I'm forgetful.
Also Brian, I just noticed your avatar- as big a fan of Tim Curry as I am, IT is and always will be the most terrifying image ever. I hate the video covers with his long fingers! But Tim Curry's ok- he doesn't scare me...

Yep.

Quote:
At the age of 25, Chapman was probably an emotional 15 year-old. There is a phenomenon in the literature of fictional personalities. Some people come to believe that they are another fictional personage. Mark, when he turned away from Christianity, believed that the Catcher in the Rye was his bible. His decision to go from Honolulu to New York City, to hang around in Central Park, to hire a prostitute, to get a gun, was a twisted re-enactment of Holden Caulfield's coming of age in New York City. In many ways, he retraced Holden Caulfield's steps before killing the man that he had made himself believe was the ultimate "phony". He believed in some way that by killing Lennon he could stop the rock star from leading astray another generation of innocent youth.
An interesting online chat transcript with an expert on Chapman: http://www.courttv.com/talk/chat_tra...ofabeatle.html

That was very interesting, Krystal.

I'd still like to beat the living crap out of Chapman, given the chance.
