For the first time in her life, Alex becomes jealous when she meets Molly, an ex-girlfriend of Patrick's, who is a sophisticated and prolific writer and doesn't know or care about Alex's movie star fame. But when Molly invites the couple to her book party, Alex uses a rather unconventional method to make herself seem more intelligent in order to fit in with Patrick's high-brow, former lover.

That was easily the best episode so far. I'm glad to see they are gettting better. Maybe this show will make it. Next week may be tough without the dead John Ritter lead in they've been getting.

I really liked last night's episode. I thought Alex was really funny at the party. It will be interesting to see how it does in the ratings.

I just saw it for the first time; ABC reran it tonight. This was a cute episode, and it shows how important it really is to be yourself. What struck me about this episode is that Alex always comes across as being rather intelligent in her own right. She has a good head on a shoulder, and she can tell the difference between sincerity and hypocrisy, which makes her role-playing here seem downright ironic. Molly is smart in a different way; in fact, she even goes out of her way to show off her education, making her seem rather elitist and unbearable. So who does Patrick prefer? Big surprise! (And he's a pretty smart guy!)
Just remember what Will Rogers once said: "Everybody is ignorant, only on different subjects!"

This was a great episode. I thought Patrick's ex girlfriend was not someone he would go for at all.

I agree with another poster on another topic. "I'm with Her" isn't always the "laugh out loud" type of comedy. But it works magic for what it is: a sweet tale of romance between two totally likable people, portrayed in a cute, down-to-earth way. I'm sure there have been other shows like it before; I just can't think of any that I remember connecting with so well.
I really laughed out loud, though, with "The Smarty Party." Like Steve M., it was my first time seeing it as well--pretty much--and the party scene was hilarious. The way Alex handled herself in front of all the bookworms with the constant tidbits about Hitler. Loved it. ![]() One of the things I appreciate most about the show is how both Patrick and Alex are understanding toward one another when the occasion calls for it. Like Patrick with Alex at the party when he realized that something was wrong. And Alex with Patrick at the end of "The Weekend Away" when Patrick was struggling with his uncertainty about who he might become after being with Alex for long enough. Beautiful.

This ties "The Musical" for best episode of Season 1 so far. Hilarious the entire way until the sweet moments at the end. 10 out of 10.
