Default Help Me find out about his episode!

Please help me find out about this! I have only seen this episode once, but it was about a kid that was killed in like a yeoshiva or something like that and I can't remember a thing about it. I'd like to know what the kid's name was, where it happened, and if it was solved. Nobody else says they remember seeing this, and I would appreciate it if you tell anything you know!

The victim's name was Chaim Weiss. He was found murdered in his yeshiva bedroom on the morning of November 1, 1986. The crime took place in New York. UM aired the case in early 1992.

It has been speculated that whoever killed Chaim Weiss was probably familiar with the layout of the yeshiva, and may have known that Weiss was one of only two yeshiva students without a roommate. But to this day, there has been no resolution to the case. The cops who worked on the case still don't have a suspect. Nor have they been able to determine a motive for the killing.

You could be thinking right. But in general, I've seen the name spelled "Chaim" and other times "Chiam."

Default Chaim

Chaim is the correct spelling. It is the Jewish word for life and is a very popular name for boys among Hassidim.
It's the word you hear in the famous Jewish toast "L'Chaim". The Ch sound is the same as in German.

What interested me about this case is certain aspects of the murder scene being in accordance with Jewish law. I always thought one of the boys must have found him and moved him to an appropriate position, but then didn't know what to do and might have been afraid he would be accused of being in on it or knowing something.

Jewish law kept the boys silent about any possible leads, too. The commandment against bearing false witness is interpreted as meaning you must never talk about other people at all -- unless you're absolutely sure of something.

Default hebrew word

Just to clarify, the language that Jewish people use, that their bible (the Christian Old Testament) is written in (mostly) is called Hebrew. The word "Chai" means life, with "Chaim" being the plural form. It is, as the last post said, a common name among Jewish people.

My Reform Jewish grandmother (aleha a'shalom) often referred to both the Hebrew and Yiddish languages as "Jewish" and I typed it that way without thinking.

Don't worry. I'm sure there are many ways of talking about it. I am not Jewish, so I don't exactly know their own specific references.
