Question Question for people 35 years old and above?

I hear alot from the younger people on these boards about some of the older music they like, but I hardly ever hear any of the older people here talk about some of the more current artists and songs they enjoy. So for all the people who are 35 and over, please share with me some of the songs, cd's, and artists you've enjoyed over the last 10 years or so. Also, what are some things you would like to see change in todays music industry? I'm very curious to know, and I'm looking forward to hearing your responses.

Well, 1st- from what I've seen, there're few people of that age group using this board. The music section, at least. Lots of teens & 20s...

I'm 35 & love music. Maybe too much!

Anyway- music of the last 10 years....
But I know right now, I'll have to elminate a huge chunk of years- roughly '95 to about '99 or '00. Total pop crap dominated those years. I really enjoy-

The White Stripes (best thing that's happened to rock in ages)

Supergrass
The Vines
Nirvana
Le Tigre
Stereolab
A Tribe Called Quest
Alice In Chains
Soundgarden
Spock's Beard
Lenny Kravitz
The Black Crowes (a lil over 10 years now)

De La Soul
Pearl Jam

and far too many great one-hits to mention. I'll probably remember more good ones later.

They're (well) over 10 years now too, but I *love* Metallica's latest. I think it's brilliant, dammit & have no idea why it's getting such flack.

As for what changes I'd like to see, just have a look at my reply on that MTV thread below...

Those are some good choices. Of the people you mentioned, I also am a big fan of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, De La Soul, Soundgarden, and a Tribe Called Quest. I don't know much about the other bands you listed, I guess I'll have to check them out. Anyway, thanks for responding. I'll go read that MTV thread now.

I would say that about the only group from the last few years that I even will listen to would be Matchbox Twenty. I think Rob Thomas is very good! I also like Sheryl Crow. And I like some of the country artists. Especially Dwight Yoakam and Patty Loveless.

Default Prefer 1950s and 1960s R&R

but I do like Clay Aiken and Kelly Clarkson. Julio Iglesias isn't bad either, but I think my favorite current singer would be Daniel O'Donnell. He's Irish, and puts on a great show with all kinds of music from older R&R to things he's written.

Some of the above artist mentioned are good.

Also The Jayhawks, Wilco, Joe Henry (his new album is amazing) and John Mayer is a pretty talented guy. His new album isn't bad.

Ooooh, great choice!!! Matchbox 20 is actually my favorite current band. Rob Thomas has a very unique voice I think. Here are some other groups and artists you might like: Garbage, Collective Soul, Counting Crows, Dave Matthews Band, The Thorns, Pearl Jam, Gin Blossoms, Everclear, Sarah Mclachlan, Edwin Mccain, John Eddy, Tracy Chapman, Train, Ziggy Marley, and Ben Harper. If you get a chance you should check some of these artists out. I think you might like them.

Cool current artists

Pantera
Killswitch Engage
Motograter
Disturbed

I'm thinking of Ozzfest on some of these.

OK, so I'm only 16, not 35 or older, but I had to agree. He's a very talented guy, and the album liner in his newest one is very innovative. Well, at least I've never seen that done before.

Yea, my mom's in love with him

My mom and I listen to all the same music, and she's 40.

I like Beck, I guess relatively speaking he's a younger artist. I also like the current crop of r&b acts who also write most of their own stuff (India Arie/Musiq Soulchild/Donnie/Anthony Hamilton) as opposed to "produced" acts.

I think I may be the oldest member at 46, but I've kept up with music. These are some of my favorites from the last 10 years or so:

Lincoln Park
Nickleback
Third Eye Blind
Collective Soul
Rammstein
Disturbed
Sugar Ray
Foo Fighters
Chevelle

Then to the other extreme, I love Clay Aiken. I'd like to hear from others my age!
