Since each character changed throughout the five seasons, which version of each character do you like the most?
Dave Nelson - I'd have to go with Season 4 Dave. He was really funny that season. Followed by Season 2. He had a great line in a second season episode. "If what you're saying is true ... then I,still don't care." Lisa Miller - I'll have to go with season 3 Lisa, although I thought she looked her best in season 4. Bill McNeal - Season 4 Bill. He was so funny in that season. Maybe that's why it's so hard to go from Bill to Max (in reruns), because it was Bill at his best, just before his untimely death. Matthew Brock - Although I liked season 1 Matthew, since he wasn't as screwed up then, I think he was the funniest in season 3. After that, he was still funny, but he just seemed too ******** to be for real. Beth - Season 2 Beth. I always liked how she was the only one in the office to know about Dave and Lisa's relationship. Beth was always funny, but I really liked her in season 2. Jimmy James - Jimmy was pretty much the same all throughout the series. But I'll go with season 2, because that's the season he made his Wife Candidate list. Catherine Duke - Season 3. She actually had something to do besides bad mouth Bill. Since she had Joe after her that season. Joe Garrelli - Season 5. I really didn't like Joe in the beginning, but he was really great during seasons 4 & 5. Max Louis - For obvious reasons, season 5. |

Dave: Season 1-3.
Lisa: Season 4. Bill: Season 1-4. Matthew: Season 1-2. Max, Catherine, Jimmy and Beth: I agree with you. Joe: Season 2-5. |

okay this is what i think:
dave- probably season one, because he seemed nervous, and a little unsure of himself, but he was funny every season, so i liked him through the whole thing. lisa- the whole thing, she was my favourite character. she was halarious in every season, and soo pretty. bill- first or second season, he was alot funnier in the earlier seasons. beth- seasons 1 & 2, i also loved when she was the only one who knew about dave and lisa. max- season 5, obviously catherine- first season.. i dont know, i just thought it was halarious when she slapped everyone (mainly bill, so funny). joe- i think i liked him in the later seasons, but he was always funny matthew- first couple seasons, cause hes soo weird and funny, i love him, but he was still halarious in the other seasons. okay theres my input. haha. |

Except for Matthew and Dave, I think the characters pretty much stayed the same throughout the series. Matthew went from being nerdy to just plain weird. Dave started to unravel mentally around season 4 or so. There was an episode in season 5 where Dave wanted to fire someone. Early Dave wouldn't have done that.

Ok, here's my two cents worth:
Dave: Season 4. The whole situation where he got chucked from his job as news director was a pretty interesting situation, I thought, and "Pure Evil" showed a side of Dave we never knew existed. ![]() Lisa: Ok, I know some of you guys are gonna hate me for this, but I really don't like Lisa all that much. And that's kind of odd considering the fact I'm a lot like her. So I really can't give a best season for her. But I can give a worst: season 5. How an intelligent person like Lisa ended up marrying a jerk like Johnny Johnson is beyond me. Matthew: I liked two seasons for Matthew: season 1, because we actually saw him working (like in "The Crisis") and he didn't seem quite as odd. And season 4, because his Bill-worship is pretty intense, and I think he was perfectly justified in worshipping him. ![]() Beth: Season 1 and early season 2, because she had to hide Dave and Lisa's relationship, and would often talk to them about it when no one else was around. And her part in "Luncheon at the Waldorf" was pretty funny. Jimmy: Seasons 2 and 3. Two, because of his wife candidate search, and 3, because of episodes like "President" and "Complaint Box" -- we didn't even see him, and he was still funny! ![]() Joe: I'm not sure I have a favorite season for Joe. I thought his character was pretty consistent throughout the series. Catherine: Season 3. But that's because I love the whole Rocket Fuel situation with Bill in "Office Feud". Max: Uh....season 5, duh. But I didn't really like him then, either. and finally.... Bill: All of them, of course. In the words of Matthew Brock: "Bill is so cool." |

Quote:
This group of actors were at their best when they were on "NewsRadio". And thanks to the upcoming DVD release, the gang are going to be spending eternity together. Because, although in real life, Phil Hartman will no longer be present ... in "NewsRadio", once he's gone, 23 episodes later he'll be back in our living rooms, alive and funny as ever. |

Jimmy--Season 3. He pretty much was the same from seasons 2-5.
Bill--Season 4. He really hit his stride (as was the show) in season 4 which made his passing even more detrimental to the show's quality. My favorite Bill performances include "French Diplomacy," "The Public Domain," "Jumper," "Look Who's Talking?," "Who's the Boss--Part 1," "4:20," and "Sinking Ship." Loved his numerous efforts in season 4 to reunite Dave & Lisa. He definitely was Emmy worthy that season. Dave--season 4. He started to become unhinge in season 4 but wasn't too unhinge and hateful of the staff to the degree he was in season 5. "Pure Evil" is just such a perfect performance, Bill-Dave-Lisa played off of each other so perfectly, like no other season. Lisa--season 4. Lisa looked her best with the long hair in seasons 4&5. The character's whole nerosis really exploded in season 4's "Super Karate Monkey Death Car" with the first revelation of her criminal past and the reasons behind it. The character kept the same dimensions/personality but prior to season 4 it was pretty much a straight-man role, as she seemed to be on par with Dave in the sensibility department. They really start to lead into this direction with the brilliant season 3 episode "Arcade." The character was still in top form in early season 5 with they made her a drunk and with great episodes such as "Lucky Burger," and her interactions with Matthew in "Sppoky Rapping Crypt," and "Boston," but the character was destroyed with the Johnny Johnson wedding. Matthew--Seasons 2&3. In seasons 1&2, he'd at least appeared to work and wasn't quite a freak. I would also say that the character was probably the funniest in season 3 with such great moments like when he punches Bill in "Led Zeppelin Boxed Set," and freaked out in front of James Caan. After season 3, and especially in season 5 the character was just WAY over the top and was like a skin irritant. |
