Default What episodes had the opening with the 3 balls and the jack-in-the-box?

I wasn't sure what they were because I remembered seeing them somewhere but didn't know what episodes they were from? Thanks!!

"Lucy and George Burns" and "Lucy, the Bean Queen" But don't expect to see that opening when you watch those episodes because it was done away with years ago. Rumor has it it was Lucille Ball herself who didn't like the opening. Perhaps she was uneasy with seeing what appeared to be a decapitated head (hers).

I can't say I blame her! I remember reading one of the directors saying that virtually no one (besides, perhaps, the animators themselves) liked it. .and called it 'horrid'! Why was it ever done in the first place, I wonder?

I think that the horrible jack-in-the-box opening was used only for Lucy and George Burns.

Actually, I like that opening. I think it was very original.

Default Which season had the "jack-in-the-box" opening title?

The fifth season (1966-'67)...but only for a few weeks. By November '66, the "kaleidoscope" opening was back for good. Lucy didn't like TOO many changes in the way her show was presented every week...and that went for opening titles that she personally felt uncomfortable seeing!

Am I the only one who thinks that it resembles The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour beginning with the bongos and bouncing balls, etc? Perhaps that is why she changed it, or atleast one of the reasons anyway.

I have several episodes taped from the CBS Daytime editions that were reran on Nick. While that set of opening visuals aren't there, the theme song is, for like 5-6 episodes. It is VERY weird to hear that music to play along with the kaliedoscope opening. Of course, the production credit sequence has the bouncing balls for like 10-11 episodes, before being changed over to the now familiar Lucy bust caricature (the one that also would be used as the logo for Lucille Ball Productions on "Here's Lucy").
