Thumbs down Last episode was a copout

Saw the last episode last night and couldn't believe what a copout it was. The last season sucked plain and simple and the last episode's "it all didn't really happen" seemed like a copout. They screwed up and should deal with the consequences.

What would the consequences be?

They won the lottery and Dan cheated on Rosie. They screwed up by doing these two things but they should have stuck to their guns and continued through the storyline instead of doing a stupid "it never really happened" wrapup at the end.

Yes, they should have ended the series at Dan's heart attack and killed him or something... I must say though, the lottery thing was absolutely HILAROUS! Where Jackie finds out and then when she rushes to Roseanne who doesn't have a shirt on... I was dying laughing at that one!

I agree, I think they really messed the show up. Especially by them saying that Jackie was really the one who became gay and not her mother, and how Darlene was really married to Mark while David was actually married to Becky. I know this is just a show and all, and it's fictitious, but now when I watch an early episode with Darlene and David, it doesn't have as much reality to me since Darlene was really suppose to be with Mark. Now when I watch, I just say to myself, so none of this really happened huh? It kind of spoils it a little bit for me. I can't really put into words what I'm trying to say, but yes, I do agree with you that the ending seemed to be a copout. I do however think it was good that they said the final season never really happened, and how they were able to get Roseanne's dream of being a writer in their, but the wife swapping stuff was what really confused me.

I never watch the last season. To me, the series ended at Darlene and David's wedding with Dan's heartattack.

You put it into words just fine. I think most of us feel the same. At least I do.

Many people don't look at the show in the same way after watching the finale. I agree that the ninth season was really stupid. When the Conners won the lottery, I knew that there was something wrong. I kept saying to myself "This isn't really happening". Why in the world would the Conners just suddenly win the lottery. To me, it didn't make any sense. I didn't believe it for a minute. The show just kept getting more and more strange after that, but before "The Wedding" episode, when Dan had his heart attack, the show was really good.

They did stick to their guns. This ending was thought up and decided upon by Roseanne and the producers before Season 9 even started...

I strongly disagree. Roseanne has a history of screwing up and then trying to undo the mistake with poorly thought out excuses. Kind of like how she claimed she wasn't trying to be funny by singing the National Anthem in San Diego and that she was a victim in all it. Or how she called LA Times critic Howard Rosenberg a F.A.G. when he gave Tom Arnold's show a bad review, but when Gay Right's Groups took offense to her remarks, she claimed that she purposefully made herself a scapegoat in an elaborate plan to call attention to predjucism in today's society. Puhleeeze. This series closer was a perfect example of her covering her mistakes as usual. Roseanne was a fantastic show in it's first few seasons anfd then it simply ran out of gas once the hubbie got a part and Bernhardt and Co were brought on. The final season was gutwrenchingly awful and a desperate attempt to breathe new life into the show. The lottery storyline failed miserably and the final episode did little to save the show's "didn't bow out when it should have" reputation. Such a shame.

I seriously doubt Roseanne is homophobic. Come one with all the gay topics the show had. And plus she has siblings that are gay.

Who said she was homophobic? Not me. Don't put words in my mouth. She made a rash comment about a journalist and tried to cover her tracks by saying it was an elaborate plan. The journalist didn't believe it, neither most other people. It was then that she went on her gay kick and added the characters and wrote in the infamous kiss with Hemingway.

Roseanne did a TV interview at the end of Season 8 and was asked about the last season...She said that there were going tobe some big (AND STRANGE) things happening on the show but you would have to wait untill the final days to really get what was going on...

Also, there was a plan to end the show with Season 8, but Roseanne pitched her ideas to the producers and writers about the whole thing including the lottery stuff, and they decided to carry on with one final season. This sudden decision can be seen very easily with the second leaving of Lecy. She was on for Season 8 becasue it was tobe the last season and then didn't return for 9. John Goodman also had plans that were to happen following the series end after Season 8 but then when the show continued he had tobe acomodiated for his movie roles and was absent for much of the season...
