Kristen Smart..I am pretty sure they found her recently (murdered) Isnt she the college student from California? If so then yes, she was found. Her family has a website with many of the details.

Kristin Smart, the girl from California, was never found.
April Gregory, the Syracuse student from New York WAS found dead. She was murdered by her boyfriend. Unsolved Mysteries had a text update about this. Here are some links about April... http://www-tech.mit.edu/V117/N60/shorttakes.60n.html http://www.th-record.com/1997/11-20-97/bloomer2.htm |

I never understood why April's killer was only charged with second-degree murder. Since she was dismembered, it seems like they would go with first degree. But I'm glad he was caught.

The nature of the death. He hit her and she fell, hit her head and died. Sadly, even if he had planned on killing her that night, since she had not died as a direct result of his actions (as in, he shot her or stabbed her and she died). She fell, and since he most likely didn't mean for her to fall and hit the stereo, he gets off 2nd degree.
:\ Sucks, though. <_< Woah, I just noticed how much I bumped this. Sorry. |

That actually amazes me. I've read cases about similar things happening in my state, and these people would get sentenced to life in prison or death. The legal argument was that if the defendant had sought help, the victim would not have died. As a wannabe prosecutor, I TOTALLY would have made that argument in the Gregory case...

Yeah Paul Flores was he ever arrested in that case? It is obvious that he killed Kristen. The question is why. I mean it is obvious Flores did it, he was only considered a witness yet was hostile, was caught lying a few times and eventually stopped talking to the police and hired an attorney. The death smelling dogs went nuts in his room. Flores I think was drinking like Kristin Smart was and I think he got carried away with her and either he raped her or she resisted his sexual advances, if she resisted maybe he got angry and killed her. Or if he raped her he was afraid she would talk to the police and that he would get in trouble so he murdered her to shut her up.

About the April Gregory case. I read the newspaper article about the arrest of her boyfriend, and it said she went to his house the night she was murdered after she discovered her parents (who lived next door) weren't home. I guess I'm a little bit confused. On UM, it said her brother dropped her off at her dorm that night and, if I remember correctly, it was fairly late. Around midnight, maybe? It also seems like she had to work at McDonalds early the next morning and her uniform was missing from her room. Did she have a car? If not, how did she get to the parents/boyfriends house and why would she have gone out again that night if she had to go to work so early the next morning. I know the bottom line is the poor girl is dead, and it's obvious her boyfriend killed her, but it just seemed like some of the facts didn't add up.

Yeah, the uniform was missing most likely because if she had to work early the next morning she was probably planning on just leaving her boyfriend's house and going directly to work. That isnt unheard of for a young person to go to a friends or significant other's house or to a party and bring stuff they need for the next day if they had to work early in the morning usually a person will just go directly to work from where they are staying to cut down on time. She must have smacked her head hard but obviously he didnt intend to kill her that way at least by having her smack her head on a stereo so that is why he got 2nd degree instead of 1st degree. I believe people get 2nd degree when there is intent but not premeditation. In this case I dont know if Terrance intended to kill April before that night however obviously they got into an arugment and at that point he intended to kill her because he was angry, what the argument was about only him and April know. They probably got into a struggle and he pushed her hard enough to where she smacked her head into the stereo with enough force to at least knock her out. I dont know that the fall killed her right away it could have happened but it might have just knocked her out. Terrance said that when he went to bed she was alive but he said she was just unconcious. Whether this is true or not is anyone's guess. Regardless of whether she was alive or not she died at some point over the next few hours most likely because Terrance didnt seek help for her injury and there was probably swelling and hemmoraging that was untreated and she either died instantly or died within hours. Terrance woke up 5 or 6 hours later I think to find that she was dead. However at the same time while he might not have premediated her murder some of the other stuff he did to her makes me wonder whether 1st degree was appropriate. Didnt he at least attempt if not actually dismember her body? If he did that 1st degree seems appropriate. I think if he would have called the cops after he found her dead and said, hey you know, I messed up, we got in an argument and I pushed her and I thought she was just knocked out and when I found her the next day she was dead. 2nd degree would be approrpiate then. However he hid the body after he dismembered it or at least attempted to dismember it then he lied to the cops and there was just all these other aggrevating factors to it. As for Paul Flores he killed Kristen Smart, I know he did it.
