Hello - I was wondering what you thought about my autographs of Lucy and Desi and if you thought they were real or not. I'm kind of questioning the authenticity of these. Below is a picture of them:

Hard to say, i think hers looks real, i wouldn't know his though, enough to know if it's legit. Have you checked others to compare them?

They do say, always be suspicious if two different ink colours are used. It's a good trick to make people think - can't have been written by the same person then, so not a forgery! But on the other hand, if the two of them were there at the same time signing that photo, why would they have used different pens? Unless it was at a mass signing of course.
Truth is you can never be sure unless you see the autograph actually being signed. |

There's always signatures of theirs up for sale on e-bay; i'm there a lot, and I'd say they look real.

It's hard to tell looking at a scan but they do seem to have the characterisics of authentic signitures. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay and was the dealer reputable.

Hello - I bought these autograph for about $170. The dealer has a lot of atographs of Lucy (like over 10) and they all look simular..some are just her and soem both. The dealer I bought this from also has a bunch of other autographs (like 10 of each and keeps selling new ones of that same celebrity after they sold like 3...they sell like 3 at a time)

Thank you for sharing some of the details. The price of $170 seems below the average cost of these two television legends. You may want to seek the advice of a different dealer in your area. I've been collecting autographs for 10 years and they look good but I can't be sure.

Does it have a Certificate of Authenticity? Also, if you buy from someone who's business is selling autographs, many times they're authentic. From just looking, that looks like Lucy's signature. I haven't really seen Desi's enough to be sure, though.

I'm very unsure of that. Lucy didn't often sign her full name. Desi's signature isn't exactly like authentic ones I've seen before, but I really don't know.

See, this is one of the things I've never understood about fandom. Why pay for something with somebody's name written on it? What's so great about autographs? I'm not getting at anybody here, I just never understood the attraction. Somebody writes their name; why's it so great? A signed first edition of a book I can understand; though it's not something I'd go out of my way to get, or pay extra money for. It's just somebody writing their name. Why is their name worth more than yours?

It's better if it's actually personalized. Like, Best of Luck Ginger, Love, Lucy. Or whatever. |

I agree with Mickey, and I don't care about autographs. It seems to be just a part of the idolatry attached to 'famous' people-- that somehow anything you have with a legitimate claim of their personal touch makes you more important.
I wonder what Lucy herself thought about that, when we consider the way she acted out the role of the obsessed fan who stumbles all over the place in the presence of a celebrity... the William Holden episode; wanting Richard Widmark to sign a grapefruit; the final scene in the Charles Boyer ep. And one I can only vaguely recall, where Lucy and Ethel both touched something that a movie star had touched, and Lucy vociferously told Ethel that she [Lucy] touched it first, that Ethel was a 'whole hand later!'. That's goofy, but Lucy surely had some first-hand experience dealing with such behavior. |

I don't care about them either but i have to say, like Dawsongirl mentionned, there's such a thrill when you see For Claude, Love Lucy for the rest of your life.
