Default Sitcoms city setting

Why does almost EVERY sitcom that has a family always set in the mid-west?? Why cant they ever have a family sitcom set in L.A., Phoenix, Dallas, Nashville,or San Dieago?? Last time I checked there were families in those cities.

"Full House" was set in San Francisco
"The Brady Bunch" was set in California
"The Cosby Show" was set in Brooklyn
"Growing Pains" was set in suburban New York
"Who's the Boss" was set in Connecticut

your point?

The show "Full House" was originally took place in San Francisco. That was one of my places I've been there since 1996.

Where do you get the notion that everything takes place in the Midwest?

I don't know but it looks like NYC wins?I know I have omitted some of them. I have to admit not many take place on the West coast.

Chicago has several though;
The Bob Newhart Show

Up until the 70's most shows took place on the East coast. And the shows situated in the Midwest or South really depicted people as being backward and unsophisticated. I used to resent that! Like the whole world began and ended in NYC! It wasn't until Mary Tyler Moore(Minneapolis) and Bob Newhart(Chicago) that we midwesterners got a little recognition and dignity!

YAY MIDWEST! :

I am from Michigan
