Default The Emmys Tribute was garbage

I am very outraged by the lack of a tribute the Emmys show put on for John. First off I think they milked it for ratings, because almost every time they went to commercial they made you believe the tribute would be coming up after the break. Then the tribute was way too short, and not well put together at all. I'm not upset that Suzanne and Joyce didn't reunite because after watching Suzanne on Good Day Live you can tell that her answers about the subject were fake and hesitant, and she was more there just to promote her own book and for air time. But I am upset because I feel the Emmys should honor there fallen actors such as John, and the other talented actors we have lost over the past year and give them the proper respect they deserve instead of putting garbage on such as that WANDA AT LARGE chick (which will be canceled soon) hogging airtime with annoying plugs for her show. Shame on you Emmys. I'll never watch again.

Default yeah

It was half ass, but remember that the Emmys are planned all year long and by two weeks before the show, they have it down to the very second. John only died on the 11th which gave them little time to fit in a tribute. They already had Bob Hope's and Bill Cosbys tributes planned and I think they would have given it a better try if they had had more time. But it is planned down to the second so there must have been a lot of hustling to get the schedule changed especially since they needed to replace him becuz he was going to be a presenter. But it was a half ass job and even tho Bob Hope is a bigger legend, John deserved better.

I was appalled at the Emmy's "tribute"...it looked like a half-hearted, slapped-together job.
I'm not saying that they should have devoted 1/2 hour to it, but they could have shown some "meatier" clips than those fleeting seconds.....something that would have given his life and career some real meaning to the attendees and viewers!

I don't know, maybe it's me, and maybe I'm all wrong on this...but I just got the feeling that the Emmy Awards show's attitude was "Well, we HAVE to do SOMETHING to acknowledge John Ritter's death...but we ALL know that his silly type of comedy was beneath the kind of work that WE honor!"

Terrible to say, yes....and again, maybe I'm all wrong on this...but I just kept getting those vibes!

It could have at least been 5 minutes and maybe had a narator talking with the clips.

I think you're all wrong.

First of all, there was nothing that said they HAD to do a tribute to John Ritter. If you were a family member of Buddy Hackett, Charles Bronson, or one of the other actors/entertainment people in the other tribute, wouldn't you have felt slighted because they didn't get a special tribute?

Secondly, as AngelofLaughter said, the Emmys (like other awards shows) are notorious for running over time. The fact that they added the section on John shows that they DID care about his work in television.

Third... what more could you have asked for? ABC did a tribute show. Larry King had Joyce and Richard, Live had Suzanne, everyone has been profiled on something. So, appreciate that fact and go with it.

Not really. I like Buddy Hackett and Charles Bronson but the Emmys are to celebrate tv and John Ritter was a tv star. Now if it was the academy awards, I agree John probably shouldn't have gotten a special tribute.

Well, I think that it was appropriate. And we're not the ones to judge. His family is.

I wouldn't doubt it. Frankly, I think John was above all that crap I saw last night. I didn't watch the full awards show, however, I will give the tribute credit. Even though it was short, it was still beautiful. And geez, I'll admit what I was thinking. I was thinking they'll spend 15 minutes on crap and 2 seconds on crap. So as you can see, I did get the 2 part right. At least 2 minutes was way better than 2 seconds. I still say John was better than some of the supposedly 'funny' people on that show. jmo

Default I guess

I guess we're all right in a way. It was half assed but considering all the other tributes, it was very respectful. But the tribute is over and now we can honor him as much as he deserves through his memory on this message board and reruns of the best show on the planet, Three's Company.

I think it was a great tribute. I agree with jayman. They didn't HAVE to do anything special, but they did. It might not have lasted long, but it was still nice. They already had the plans of what they were going to do for the show, and they still managed to fit that in. I didn't see a special tribute for Nell Carter or Buddy Ebsen. The only thing I didn't like was that they advertised it before almost every commercial break.

I agree that the tribute was a bit skimpy...especially because they kept intimating that it was going to be "next" and then left it until the last 15 minutes of the show. Quite frankly, I thought that was a really sleazy way to ensure people kept watching. When it finally did happen, there was little payoff. I enjoyed seeing Henry Winkler up there and thought he was the perfect guy to honor Ritter, but the montage of clips they showed was all too short and pretty unimpressive. I didn't expect Ritter to have a tribute anywhere near the scope of the one for Bob Hope, but one that required a little more thought would have been nice.

If you looked carefully, you would have noticed a small ABC logo in the bottom right hand corner of the large monitor when the montage began playing. What did that mean?

Someone mentioned Wanda Sykes. Did anyone notice how visibly irritated Bill Cosby seemed with her? She said something about how many years "The Cosby Show" managed to stay on the air and he leaned over to the mic and said "yeah, we spoke english." Also, is there something wrong with his eyesight now? I've never seen Bill wear dark glasses indoors before. He looked like Ray Charles.
