The J.J character was Completely Different because
He didn't clap his hands and say DYNO-MITE He didn't have on that stupid blue hat the entire episode He was laid back He referred to as James Junior Thelma and Michael look to him as their older brother and instead of the Family Clown James did not insult him at all |

Yeah, i noticed some differences. Actually, i don't think he clapped his hands together and interjected "dyno-mite!" any during the first season.

His character was most likely still in development. If you notice in most sitcoms that just start, the sitcom clown never seems to be so humorous in the first few episodes. Example: Chrissy Snow and if you've ever watched 227, Jackie didn't develope her humorous character until later in the season. They are always so much more straight at the beginning.

I agree with Screech but Urkel still didn't have it down packed the first few.

That is true about the character developing. I noticed that with Al Bundy. The first season or two he was a little more reserved about things. As the show went on, he became increasingly outrageous and hilarious. I also notice that certain jokes would be used a lot during a period of time, say most of a season. It would go in spurts, but really it didn't matter what they did, it turned out great.

You can even look at early episodes of the Simpsons and see that they weren't fully developed.

Yeah, i remembered the fact that he did say a couple of times in the first season, but not in the trademark way that we all came to know so well with the word "kid" inserted in front of it.

Yeah, i agree with Marvin g. Without Urkel, Family Matters would have had nothing. Not that the cast wasn't talented, because there were some good actors. Every great show has to have some character that becomes synonomous with the very mention of the show's name.
