has anyone taken AP US History...damn alright, I am taking a break from all of my notes I have to take (which all have to be hand-written...

) and its soooooo hard...I mean the class its self is wicked fascinating and I feel I am learning so much, yet the amount of work that goes along with it is killer. Lastly year and freshman year I took the level that gets the same amount of credits as AP, yet...no where did we nearly get as much work...I dont kno, I am feeling overwhelmed and its only September, kinda sad, but Junior year sucks, pretty much no good can come of it, cept sleeping in when you have study first... This thread was pretty much pointless but, I was wondering if anyone has shared in on my pain?

but it all will led to some good...hopefully...

I took AP US last yr...AP Euro sophomore year, and Im in AP Gov now.
US was a lot of work just because of the volume of information they expect you to learn in one year- We had quizzes every tues, a chap a week, test every friday- I loved the teacher I had for it but I felt like I didnt get to enjoy the class because it was cram-cram-cram all year.
Junior year was rough.
But anyone who says senior year is a lot easier is lying! Especially if you have AP courses...its the same amount of work plus college apps....I'm hoping the spring lightens up.

I took ACC English and ACC Spanish in 9th grade, but didnt after that.

I did good in both classes, but I stuck to CCP. I was never one to get too much into school work. I was (for the most part) pleased with my slightly above average grades and chose not to get straight A's. If I wanted to, I couldve easily gotten A's if I had put in the effort, but I chose not to. I wouldnt want to be in the ACC classes because so much more would be expected of me, so instead of struggling in an ACC class, I prefered to slide by CCP classes. Being in all honors classes would be nice, but it wouldnt make me better because of it. I was told to get good grades to prepare for college, but college isnt for me. I wouldve wasted my Dads money. A college degree doesnt make anyone better and I still plan on owning my own salon. Woo woo!

Senior year was ok. Algebra totally ruined it for me. Other than that it was pretty good. Spanish 4 was my favorite class. I got C's, D's and F's in that class, but I did try believe it or not and I still had a blast. As long as I put the effort in and had fun, it was worth it. I never really crammed for tests either.. I can honestly say I never stayed home to study. Ever. Id skim my notes in class and stuff, but never at home.

I took AP history last year. It was a lot of note taking and having to pay attention and learn how to critically think but I took a lot away from that class even though I got a 2 on the AP test. It was very stressfuk at times but I like the way my teacher taught it, in sections instead of chronologically. For instance we would do one unit on economics and start from the early 1700's or so and work our way up to the present, take a test, then do a unit on foreign policy and go back to the 1700's again. I think that worked really well because other schools that did it chronologically weren't even up to WWII by the time the AP test came around. But overall I'm glad I took the class because it taught me a lot, not just about history but about myself (I think the teacher helped with that) and besides the teacher was Mo, my major hottie.

AP History...I took AP World last year and am taking AP US now. I know what you mean with the notes....we're only in the year 1830 or something, and i have an entire one inch binder worth of notes. world was annoying....i had so many notes, and my teacher....it was her first time teaching an ap class. basically, she read from the text, which was annoying because the book was either vague or biased. and then came time for the test, not only did it cost 80 bucks, but the entire year, all the tests, homeworks, and the 20 hour-prepping i had done over the weekend, were all on the line. the test was so easy, or maybe because i overstudyed, and i got a 4...of course, i did so bad on sat 11. anyway....i love us so much more than world, because it's more interesting, my teacher is the funniest guy in the world and he's always making jokes, plus he knows what he's doing, he's been teaching ap for 20 years.

don't worry kt, it'll be so stressful in the beginning, and you may even drop out, but, and i know this is such a chique, but "it'll all be worth it in the end."

Dual-Credit Chemistry. It's hard, yet, it's easy (don't ask)

(BTW: The way the Dual-Credit thing here works, is that, you earn credits SIMULTANEOUSLY for Chem II for HS, and Gen Chem. + Lab for College. Passing for the HS credit is 60, Passing for the College Credits is 70.)

I was signed up for the same thing, but for US History and English, BUT, I woulda had to take english 1st period, and I really didn't want that. As for US History, the person teaching it and me don't exactly get along (She's my former Eco/Gov. and General History teacher, REtired, with Credentials to teach College-level classes)

I'm also taking Calculus, but, dangit, it's not for college credit.

I am taking AP US right now.....Those damn DBQs are driving me crazy...our teacher can't decide on what type of format we should do. I have so much hw to do for that class by monday...lol Sunday's good for catching up. I'm Also taking AP Spanish....pretty hard too.

For Chapter 16 in the American Pageant I had 13 pages of hand written notes alone... yah, that is fun...I have a test Monday, and I will be up all night tomorrow studying for that and a "pop quiz" in latin (aghhhh)

but for AP US History, cant wait till AP Exam is all over with (if I dont get a 4 or 5...I will prob. cry, cuz of all thw friggin work I am already putting into)

I am taking AP Enviromental next year, but the teacher loves me and I love him so its all good, and hes like "its a really easy course..." so

I'm just going to do the two-year college thing. I've been in school since 1987 and really don't want to do any more schooling. I can find a way to get rich.

And I agree with what you said.

BTW, I didn't take any AP classes in HS for two reasons:

1. My HS was pretty small and didn't offer very many AP classes (only Calculus

).
2. Junior and senior years were bad enough without needing to take AP classes. Junior year was murder and I was totally burned out by senior year.

At least that's the good thing about AP Gov, we don't have to do any of those.

My teacher hated the American Pageant books because they were so biased and "dead white man's history" in his words so we didn't use it except for sections of reading that he would assign from each chapter that no one ever read.

I have 3 books for my class

~The American Pageant
~The America
~and then United States history AP

the worst part is that my teacher won't make up his mind about which book is better so he'll make one chapter test completely based on one book, and then the next one based on the same one or another chapter test.....so basically we are suppose to memorize the chapters for all three book, who btw sometimes contradict each other....

Oh yea and One chapter in the America book may be like 3 in the AMerican pageant and two in the AP book....we NEVER know...

WOOWWHOOOW finished pretty much my notes for chapters 13,14, 16 in American Pageant...now I have all my readings in packets and notes and The American Spirit notes...blahhhhhhhhh

I took AP English, AP Psychology, and AP German. I only took the test in English though - and now, four years later, my university says it can't find my scores!

I now have to contact AP and send them 30 bucks so they can send MSU my scores (again). I'm not real happy with the AP people right now.
