Hey everyone! This idea may not work out, and it may take a really long time, but how about we all make one long reunion fan fiction and we e-mail it to Columbia House when we get their e-mail address. And they might be able to take some ideas??? But..we gotta kill Jo..cause that has to happen..but they might be able to take our ideas!! And maybe 'Sitcoms Online Message Board Members' will be in the ending credits of the reunion! Lol!!! How does it sound?

You know, as good as that sounds -- and as great a script as we would turn out -- I wouldn't recommend trying it.
The only television series I've ever heard of that accepts "spec scripts" is Star Trek. (That just means they will take them for review.) Other production companies just won't for a host of legal reasons. (Think of it like this: the studio sees a bunch of unsolicited scripts and declines to use any of them. The program comes out and contains ideas or scenes that are similar to some contained in the unused scripts.Who owns those ideas? Who should be compensated for them?) Screen writing credits are hot properties and worth money. Writers are represented by agents or attorneys in the whole negotiation process. In addition, those writers belong to a union or guild set up for their craft. In fact, there's a chance that all television/film writers are going to strike in the near future over issues just like this. It's a shame that it's as complicated as it is because I'm sure no one knows the characters better than the folk on this board. (Well, okay. *Maybe* the actresses who played them do have a *slight* advantage over us! <grin> ) |

I have to agree with Devon King. I remember reading something on the official X-Files web page in the FAQs section asking about submitting scripts. They basically said they go into the trash can because of the issues Devon King mentioned. I'm not sure how well a group fanfic like this would work though because everyone has a different writing style and they don't always mesh. It's a nice idea though.
