Default Do you think it was weird for the Fish character to still appeared on Barney Miller

While he had his own spinoff-FISH?

No..Fish never really wanted to retire in the first place..I think he missed being a cop..for Abe Vigoda to return to make guest appearnces while he had his own show..no..actors do it all the time..it was cool when Fish showed up to say hello..

Usually the character that was spinned off is never seen on the set of the parent show again. The only characters that was spinned off and appeared back on the parent show was the Jeffersons returning to All in the Family. I can't think of anyone else.

Yeah that is true but in the case of Fish not being a very successful spin-off that is probably the reason why Sgt.Fish showed up at the squad room to say hello..probably missed being on a successful show..the other characters and shows that you had mentioned were very successful..the opposite of Fish/Barney Miller spin-off..Fish only lasted for one season while Barney MIller lasted eight seasons

Actually, I think that's how creator Danny Arnold intended it. As a matter of fact, my online sources inform me that he had a sort of anthology-spinoff planned called OFF-DUTY that focused on the lives of the officers when they were off the clock. The four main segments Arnold had planned were:

1. A show featuring Barney's life at home with Mrs Miller and kids.
2. Fish and Bernice being the caretakers of a group home filled with kids.
3. Wojo and Wentworth's off-duty romance [they would have moved in together].
and 4. A sort of ODD COUPLE type arrangement with Harris and Dietrich as roomies.

And all this was supposed to be airing at the same time as the original series. Only the Fish spinoff made it to the air, probably because the rest of the guys were exhausted enough working fourteen-hour taping days!

Anyway, that's my two cents worth. Questions, comments, nasty noises?
