What was your favorite season (I am combining 1 & 2 because they total 22 episodes) and why?

Season #5. It seemed to have the best mix of the old and new ideas. It had more edge than the older seasons and yet did not have some of the outlandish events that characterized the newer seasons. But 4-8 are all up there.

I think Season 4 was ingenious. The whole creating a show within a show was great.

Seven - The Maestro, marble rye, and the soup nazi. Susan's death was an unfortunate ending though - I cried very hard.

Mirroring sinatrastar's reasoning, I choose season 5.
(Whoa!... WeMissTripper's answer is my favorite Grateful Dead tune AND Disneyland attraction )

Season 4 has the brilliant ongoing plot of Jerry and George writing their own sitcom for NBC. In the midst of that, it also has many classic episodes, like "The Trip" (Part 1 &2), "The Bubble Boy", "The Airport", "The Pick", "The Outing", "The Implant", "The Junior Mint", and the most remarkable episode of them all, "The Contest". Season 4 tops them all.
