It's summertime, but that doesn't mean the women of Sex and the City are livin' easy. They've got new loves, new responsibilities, new choices to make, and (oh, yes!) a new baby to deal with - and that equates to a whole new outlook on being single in New York City. Ready or not, Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha are headed for uncharted territory on an all-new season of HBO's smash-hit comedy series Sex and the City!

Yes, the very short (8 episodes, due to star Sarah Jessica Parker's pregnancy) fifth season of Sex and the City comes to DVD on December 30th, just in time for you to redeem your holiday gift certificates!

Despite the brevity of the season, HBO doesn't skimp on the extras. There will be the usual Audio Commentary with Michael Patrick King, plus "next on" previews, biographies, at least one featurette, and an "interactive trivia game" with 30 questions about the show.

Presented in its natural 1.33:1 format, this release will have an English Dolby 5.1 soundtrack as well as 2.0 Stereo for both English and Spanish. Subtitles will be in English, Spanish, and French. This will have a list price of $49.95. Here is the cover art:

That's really good news!!!

as in 2004, i'm going to get all five seasons of "Sex And The City", so i won't have to see the edited versions of it when it comes to syndication.

Since posting the Sex and the City: The Complete 5th Season announcement the other day, we've been pelted with questions about the configuration for this release.

Some of your notes question the number of discs that will be in this set, telling us that "this site says it's a 3-disc set, and that site says it's a 4-disc set". The real issue is probably the one expressed by others: "is 8 episodes really all there were to that season?" and if so, "how can they spread just that to 3 or 4 discs?"

First off, we can assure you that there really were only 8 episodes for Season 5. They are: "anchors away," "unoriginal sin," "luck be an old lady," "cover girl," "plus one is the loneliest number," "critical condition," "the big journey," and "i love a charade". In regard to the disc count in this set: 2 DVDs are what will be in this release. At this time TVShowsOnDVD has access to official material from HBO and distributor Warner Brothers that states "8 half-hour episodes on 2 DVD discs".

Still, we sadly agree that the price tag for this 2-disc set will probably turn off a few fans.
