Question a pilot who's afraid of heights... ?

ok. in last night's episode, when Lowell was up on top of the steeple of the church, Brian was yelling up to him that Joe was coming up, but he was being slow about it, so Joe yelled back some comment about how Brian should go up instead even though he's afraid of heights... or something like that..
ok now.... Brian- a guy who flys planes for a living- is afraid of heights... how can you get into a plane and fly it if you're afraid of heights? I totally don't get that.. lol.
That's one of the reasons why I dread getting into an airplane. I am SO afraid of heights, and that's why I hate flying.
I dunno- that just hit me funny...

When you stop to think about it, that whole "Pilot afraid of heights" thing IS very funny....Sort of like a Wal-Mart Greeter who is afraid to talk to strangers!

Pilotguy, the way I see it, I would think that even if a pilot is afraid of heights, being in a plane makes him feel like he's in an enclosed area, so it doesn't really feel like you're high up. Being on the steeple of a church, that's an open area, and probably very easy to fall off. I wouldn't know because I've never been on a steeple!! Hey, I'm not too crazy about heights, either, but I do like to fly.

I haven't seen this episode in a while and boy, Laura Innes looks so young!! Quite a departure from her role as the not so nice(I'm not going to say the b-word) Kerry on ER. I like seeing people playing totally different characters. Kind of like when we were talking about Craig T. Nelson before.

I kind of have that strange "fear of heights" thing....I have no problem with flying in a plane or even riding super-high roller-coasters and other midway rides....but put me on a ladder to paint the second story of a house and my knees start buckling!

I will do ANYTHING to avoid climbing high ladders!

I'm scared of heights and flying too. I don't even like being at the airport. Pretty strange considering what my favorite TV show is

I do agree with Phoebe that Brian probably has no problem being in the plane, but doesn't like being high up in an open area.

Brian was climbing that fire escape in the Clint Black episode though, wasn't he? Wouldn't that have terrified him?

Red face Been behind a yoke of a plane and I feel safer then climbing a ladder.

As others I don't have nerves unless I have wings and rotorwing above me. Been in a Helicopter in two occasions.
