Default Alfred Hitchcock Talk

Many people, including movie directors, consider Alfred Hitchcock to have been the greatest director in history. Some of his better works include:

The 39 Steps (1935)
The Lady Vanishes (1938)
Shadow of a Doubt (1943)
Lifeboat (1944)
Spellbound (1945)
Strangers on a Train (1951)
Dial M for Murder (1954)
Rear Window (1954)
The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956)
Vertigo (1958)
North by Northwest (1959)
Psycho (1960)
The Birds (1963)
Marnie (1964)

Because his work is so entertaining, it was not taken seriously until, I believe, the 1950s, when film critics in France wrote a series of magazine articles suggesting that he was one of the best directors in the world. It has sometimes been said that in an Alfred Hitchcock movie, everyone is guilty, but almost never of what he's accused of. Tell us what you think of him, what movies you've liked or disliked, or anything else about him that you would care to share or ask.

He's my favorite director of all time, and I'm distantly related to him (very distant, but STILL) I collect his movies. I own 34 of them (probably more that I just can't find at the moment). My faves are:

Rebecca
Shadow of a Doubt - Hitch's personal fave
Vertigo
Lifeboat
Psycho
The Trouble With Harry
I Confess

I love all of his movies - I believe there's only 3 that I haven't seen: The Lodger, Under Capercorn, and Stage Fright. I've loved all of his work except Torn Curtain (Julie Andrews and Alfred Hitchcock - not a great idea)

The only Hitchcock film I've seen (that I know off) is The Birds. Although it's a good film-I don't like some of the kinda stuff in the birds- the woman screaming alot really pissed me off.

The last Hitchcock film I've seen was a very good one: North by Northwest. That movie reeks of awesomeness. Cary Grant was great as a man mistaken for a made-up spy. One thing that is odd is that Hitchcock never won an Oscar for Best Director.

I know, isn't that awful?! But he did win the Thalberg award - his speech was two words: "Thank you" and he walked offstage

I think some people felt that movies with the popular appeal his have shouldn't be taken seriously as art, which is really stupid.

Hitchcock's one of my favorite directors, and I think it's a shame that he wasn't as appreciated as he should've been until much later in his career. I've seen Dial H For Hitchcock quite a few times. Watching his home movies, listening to close friends and past colleagues is really interesting.. especially when they talk about him and his wife, Alma.

Favorite films:

Psycho

Rebecca

Rear Window

Strangers on a Train

Rope

The Birds

Vertigo

Forgot one: Shadow of Doubt

If you haven't already, take a look at "North by Northwest."

Unfortunately, that's one of the few Hitchcock films I haven't seen. I'll be sure to watch it, though!
