Default Golden Girl

Betty White was already on "The Golden Girls" when "Mama's Family" was in syndication. She was probably too busy.

I'm surprised she even made the one appearance.

As far as the mentioning of Fran after her death, it's hard for me to say. I don't think she was mentioned ONCE after the first season of the syndication years. She was mentioned in at least a couple episodes after her funeral though. Maybe Thelma did say something about her after the first season, but I don't remember it. Fran--like Buzz, Sonya and Ellen--were forgotten after season one. It's like after the first few episodes of syndication, the show didn't feel the need to make any connection to the NBC years or the people in them.

I'm also surprised she re-appeared on this show after already starting work on "The Golden Girls", even winning the Emmy for that show for 85-86...

Post Frannie mentioned

Okay, from hard-core "Mama" nut memory, here we go (some titles made up by me since I don't have 'em all memorized):

--------------------------------------------------

--"Farewell, Frannie" --- (obviously)

--"Fran's Will" --- (obviously)

--"The Courteous Crook" --- (Mama and Naomi polish silver at the show's start...

Naomi: "...we never use this stuff!"

Mama: "We most certainly do! I had it out at your weddin'...or was that your Aunt Fran's funeral?...it was some tragic occasion.")

--"Gran'ma Crowley's Ghost" --- (Mama talks about how her mama left her a beautiful diamond and ruby brooch...

Mama: "...she left it to me because I was her fav'rite."

Vint: "I thought it was cause Aunt Fran didn't want it?"

Mama: "Because I was her fav'rite!")

--"Bubba's Hanky Panky" --- (Mama freaks out after she finds a bra in Bubba's bed and concludes that he's "gettin' it on" with study pal Toni...

Mama: "NOT in my house! NOT under my roof! NOT IN MY DEAD SISTER'S BED!")

There may have been 1 or 2 more Frannie references, but that's it. But I just re-read your post and saw that you wanted to know how many times her death was mentioned, and I thought it was how many times was she mentioned.

Oh, well...maybe you'll find this interestin', too! lol

And I'm not sure why Betty didn't try to reappear anymore---at least once or twice---but I sure woulda enjoyed it. Her interaction with Iola in her one appearance was great, lol!

Yes, I thought that they could have at least mentioned Vinton's children once in a while! That was weird! Out of sight out of mind I guess like the infamous Chuck Cunningham!

Default One Fran reference I remember that was funny.

I remember in the episode where Bubba moves into Fran's room and puts up a poster of Twisted Sister. Mama said something like "I dealt with one twisted sister and now I have to live with another."

Yeah, that was the episode about Fran's will.

"Lord, I've given up one twisted sister for another..."
