It was episode #25..."The Big High."

I don't remember who the guest stars were, but I thought the father (of the child who drowned) was someone who went on to do other shows.

THE BIG HIGH originally aired on November 2, 1967. The father, "Paul Shipley," was played by Tim Donnelly who was in many Dragnet episodes.

Dang...because he reminded me of the guy who play Chet on Emergency. Unless that guy's name was Tim Donnelly.

I always thought he looked like "Meathead" from All in the Family.

I always thought that episode was overdone by the fact that this couple would get so stoned they would forget about their kid. It it were acid it would be more believable, but then this was the 60's.

Actually there's been way more cases of babies drowning in bathtubs when the parent(s) are perfectly sober. So yes, I agree that this ep was sensationalized - but again, as you say, it was the 60s and as we know, Friday was a bigtime narc wannabe!

I'm not sure if it's just an urban legend or truth, but there was a big story back then about a female (teenage) babysitter who supposedly was high on acid (LSD) and put the baby in the oven and a roast in the crib (mixing them up). Don't know if Dragnuts ever addressed it tho.

I enjoy the late 60's Dragnet a lot but when that episode comes on I just turn it off ... in bad taste and just pushing for the ratings if you ask me +-
