1975-76 TV Season: A strong season for sitcoms? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Looks like the 1975-76 season was VERY STRONG for Sitcoms because

The Jeffersons was added to fall lineup

Good Times was still in top ten

Barney Miller was added to fall lineup

Maude was in it's prime

Phyliis was a new spinoff

Happy Days was becoming more popular

Laverne and Shirley was introduced

Grady spinned off from Sanford and Son

All in the Family was still number one

Anyone Agree?

Grady was short-lived. It lasted from Dec 1975 to March 1976 and has never been in syndication

In addition to the ones you mentioned Rhoda, Mash, Chico and the Man, and The Bob Newhart Show were in their prime. Welcome Back Kotter and One Day At A Time were starting out. It was a great season.

1975 is a good season for sitcoms. The last episode of Odd Couple came in March 1975, where Felix remarried. A proper ending for a funny series. I don't knows what other household shows said good-bye in '75. Anyway, for the 1975-'76 year, Happy Days climbed back, and the Fonz was beginning to hit his stride. Many of my favorite eppies include "Richie Fights Back", "JAilhouse Rock", and "A Date with Fonzie", my ALL time favorite. It's the one that introduced "Laverne & Shirley", which came in January. It was no. 3 in the ratings. Also, Mary Tyler Moore continued to go strong. including "Chuckles Bites The Dust". No descripiton needed here. "Rhoda" was still picking up steam as well, after finishing ahead of MTM the previous year. Other shows from 1975, but don't any of include, All In The Family, Jeffersons, Welcome Back, Kotter, Barney Miller, etc. Too many to count. Indeed, the 1975-'76 was a good one. Shows bid farewell, others arrived, and many hit their prime.

I am going to nitpick here, but I believe the Jeffersons was introduced halfway through the season before, in January 1975.

But it was added to the fall schedule of CBS in 1975
