Default Syndication Censors

I have noticed that some, maybe all?, of the shows have been edited - to make them shorter to allow more commercials I assume. For instance in the one episode where Cosmo is going to sue the coffee company I remember that Elaine says to Cosmo that if she was on the jury she would not give him a dime. But he says that Jackie would have weeded her out before she got on the jury. However in the re-runs this exchange is not shown .

Have you noticed this or am I imagining things?

I haven't noticed it, but I'm 100% sure that they do edit them.

Actually most sitcoms that eventually move to syndication are edited for time. I notice it all the time with Seinfeld as well as The Simpsons.

Totally sucks.

Have you noticed specific lines or scenes deleted? If so which ones?

I've heard that Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David edited all the episodes for syndication themselves; they didn't want anyone else messing with them. Virtually all shows are cut for syndication because they can't charge as much for airtime on a rerun, so more commercials have to be squeezed in.

A few that I can think of offhand:

The final episode is the most noticable. The part where Jackie gives Jerry a tie is gone. And the Bubble Boy and Steinbrenner don't appear on the witness stand.

The Poison Envelopes- The part where George lights a cigarette has a line cut ("I tried to quit, but it was too tough.<cough!>" This can be seen in the syndicated version of one of the clip shows, however.

Disturbingly, it appears that TBS is making further cuts. I noticed that the line "Me so happy!" is gone from the very end of the Bizarro episode, even though it's in other syndicated versions.

It's been so long since I've seen any of the network runs that I can't remember any more. Every one has something missing though.

I just saw another one today on the episode with the Jon Voight car. Elaine usually starts talking about how Jon doesnt drive cars in his movies and its cut out to the point where Kramer comes in the door.

ELAINE: I've never even seen him in a car. I mean, look at his movies. No cars. Deliverance - canoe. Midnight Cowboy - boots. Runaway Train...runaway train.

Someday, I pray, that all of the shows will be available on DVD, unedited(with deleted scenes!). Then all of us can finally get rid of that last excuse for leaving the house.

Angry Kramer de-Pimped !

The Kramer as a pimp episode is on and I swear those bastards cut out part of his pimp walk where he shakes his cane at some dudes on the sidewalk.

All the editing makes me sick! These shows are works of art that should not be messed with.

We are in agreement. I think there was another cut I noticed in the episode where Kramer gets the jacket back. After he does and they are sitting at the table I thought Kramer said something else but all they show him do is grabbing the collar of the jacket, i gotta check the scripts out. Nope guess I am wrong.
