Well, that's a toughie. I picked instant messaging because I've been doing IMs since the fall of 1997 (email has IM's beat, I started in January of 1997). I do NOT trust chatrooms anymore. IM's and PMs/emails were hard to choose for me, but that's what I chose in the end.

As often said on The X-Files, "Trust no one".

I don't fully trust anyone on-line.

PM, Email, and IM are pretty equal for me. No way do I trust chatrooms though.

Exclamation The pen is mightier than the sword

I don't trust any method of online communication. The rule of thumb is--Don't ever put into writing anything that you wouldn't want anyone to read.

It's a few e:mails that are burying Martha Stewart, and the Enron execs were sloppy with e:mails too.
I still write what I want to whom I want, but I should be more careful myself. Then again, I'm not into insider trading or embezzling pension funds.

There are some real horror stories out there regarding e:mails being forwarded on purpose or sent to the wrong person by mistake. People lose jobs, friendships, even marriages. Your written words can come back to haunt you.

Gotta be careful.

The only people I trust are people I actually know offline.....so, sorry all. I've never met you. For all I know, you could be psychopathic, child molesting, cold-blooded murderers who try and act nice to me so you can lure me in and kill me in my sleep. Well, no one is getting my address. Not even you, Crystal.

I'm surpised no one tried to mail a letter bomb to Nate after he gave out his address online. He was asking everyone to send him one dollar so he can go to England to be an old guy in a hat who drinks wine all day long. Freak.
