What changes would be made to fit in with todays sitcoms?
#1. Roy and Fay probably wouldn't be on the show because they're not young and attractive. #2. There would be a lot more sex. Even Antonio would be gettin' some! #3. The airport would have to be moved to New York City or some other large city. #4. The characters would all become so whiny, shallow, and just plain unlikeable. #5. Helen, Roy, and Fay would probably be the only origional cast members left, as everyone else went on to other TV shows. #6 Many more sweeps stunts and special guest stars. #7. A huge increase in sex talk and potty humor and stuff like that. #8. Joe would have been the dumb, insensitive, spineless husband to Helen's intelligent, sarcastic, smart-alecky wife. They also would fight a lot more, but not in a humorous way. #9. One of the characters would come out of the closet. (Not that I have a problem with gay people, but I think adding a gay character or having a same-sex kiss just for ratings is sad.) #10. It would have been cancelled in a month. What other changes can you guys think of? |

I can think of one more....
Joe would gain about 50 or 60 pounds and have a huge gut hanging over his pants....after all, isn't that how just about every OTHER sitcom husband looks nowadays? (OK, so Raymond doesn't look like that...but that's only because he knows that his wife would be verbally RUTHLESS if he ever DID!). |

Do you think eventually they would've had a 'very special' episode??

At least "Wings" stopped that "cholesterol" business right then and there and moved on to the story of the evening....but NOW you would have an episode with Roy lying in a hospital bed, hooked up to a heart monitor and the gang gathered around his bed sobbing, wondering if poor Roy will make it through the "very special" episode!

Joe and Helen would probably have become parents by now. So there would be a season with pregnant Helen. And then the big comical payoff. Of course, Helen won't have the baby in a hospital. That's too realistic. She's having her baby in a broken down elevator. Why not, the elevator where Joe proposed to her.
On a serious note, I wonder what they would have done for the September 11th 2001 tragedy. I mean since Wings is about an airport. And sadly David Angel (who worked in Wings) died in the terrorist attacks.

All I can think of is I'm sure glad it's not a part of the current TV environment, cos it could just so easily get the very life sucked right out of it. TV has been terrible ever since about 99 when the game shows started to have a revival, then reality shows jumped on the bandwagon, and now freakin' karaoke contests. Excuse me, but back in the late 80s "Star Search" was widely known as a complete 'reject' show. Now everyone comes into my music store asking for Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Stoddard, and Clay Aiken!
...Excuse me a moment. I need to go physically torment myself at the realization that I do in fact know and have memory recall of the names Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Stoddard, and Clay Aiken...oh the humanity! Anne |

Now, if Joe & Helen did have a kid, or kids, do you think we would EVER see them? Seems like whenever a character has a baby on a sitcom, the baby never needs constant supervision!!
