Every book brings new revelations although Ball of Fire is just a rehash of the same old stories, what's the most surprising or shocking thing you've ever gotten from a book or article? I remember how surprised i was when Lee Tannen said Gary was like 15 years younger than Lucy, and i was surprised Gary wore a toupee all those years like Jimmy Stewart.

Desilu showed me how ruthless Lucy could appear on the set, but i later learned that most people who got to the top were the same way. But women for some reason, aren't allowed to behave that way. I was shocked to hear the stories about Richard Burton and Danny Kaye and the others that tangled with Lucy at some point. I even joined the boards to find out why they all said she was , you know, that word. But, i think lately, i've concluded that every major superstar did the same thing, she got more ink out of jealousy and the gender thing too, which is unfair. We have to remember that at one time, she was the ONLY female superstar in the business! She did not get to where she got by being a pushover.

The most shocking thing I have EVER heard about them is that they got a divorce! lol!
No, I didn't just found this out. I've been an ILL fanatic for about 2 years. A little while after I became one, I didn't know hardly anything about them, and I remember reading on the internet that they had gotten a divorce and I was like... lol what coule be more shocking than that after just becoming a fan and seeing them play the Ricardos? P.S. No, I'm not a fan who doesn't know anything about them, I know as much as possible about them that I can. |

I can't believe you didn't know that was a toupee!
I would have to say my most shocking thing was reading Desilu and finding out she wasn't the same "LUCY" off camera.

Well, he was able to afford those progressive toupees like Stewart that got greyer and greyer slowly and gradually, so it appeared real, imagine them in bed with the toupee off and her eyebrows not painted on yet, scary sight for any burglar.

Jimmy Stewart wore a toupee? Wow! Well, you learn something new every day.
![]() So had he been wearing it for long? I mean, wasn't he worried he might have been captured during his airforce days in WWII, and have had to be around all those fans in the POW camps with no toupee on? Could have had very strong glue I suppose... |

Yes a lot of the old stars did, and we never knew about it. You're probably too young to know Ray Milland, but he went without a toupee in Love Story and his fans were shocked. Stewart was a shock to me too, then again, i never even knew Lucy wore wigs when i was a kid.

Women often wore wigs back then. It was a fashion thing. Loads of them did it, partly because it was much harder to dye your hair in those days, and also because it was easy to switch between styles. Like in the seventies when young men had long wigs, because the fashion was for long hair, but their schools or jobs demanded an above the collar cut!
I'm amused by your comment that I'm too young to know Ray Milland though, Splain! Is there anybody here who's old enough to remember I Love Lucy! That's what TV is for - old films and repeats!

I can't say the most shocking thing I have ever learned about Lucy & Desi.
It's more like:
