I was just thinking of the "Good Old Days" when Nick At Nite first starting showing nightime reruns of old shows (back when the "old shows" consisted of series like "Dennis The Menace", "My Three Sons", "Mr. Ed", etc....
Back then they didn't "double run" episodes in hour blocks....Each series had ONE new airing per night. That went from 8 PM until midnight....then at midnight NICK would RERUN the SAME evening's episodes in the SAME order during the "overnight" hours. This made it GREAT for videotaping....If you tried to tape the "early" airing of a show's episode and for some reason your VCR messed up, or your cable went out, or you just plain forgot to set the VCR, you had a second chance to tape the episode during the overnight hours. This way of programming not only gave you a "second chance" at viewing and taping, but it also gave you a MUCH better variety of shows....one episode each of SEVERAL different series, instead of mega-blocks of NICK's "pet" series. Just random recollections of a 47-year old NICK veteran viewer! |

Pilotguy, this is a slightly different subject, but should I be concerned that Nick is just going to drop Wings from the rotation in a couple of months? They keep on advertising how they are going to be adding Full House and Roseanne and in the major promo they run they list, Full House, Roseanne, Cheers and Cosby as the shows. Something tells me Wings is going to be put on the shelf for a while.

I have the feeling that it will dropped too.
If Wings was a little too "grown-up" for N@N, then I bet Roseanne definitely won't do well at all. I'm surprised N@N picked it up in the first place. |

The thing with those shows is that they were classics, but not overly rerun classics. "I Love Lucy" is a classic. But it's rerun all the time. "Car 54, Where Are You?" is a classic that rarely gets air time. And none of my peers have heard of "Dobie Gillis" yet it was one of my favorite shows as a kid thanks to N@N. I mean now N@N shows "The Cosby Show" yet so does TBS and some other local channels. "Roseanne" will be on N@N AND Oxygen. BTW, does anyone here remember when N@N had their New Years Rerun Countdowns? They were hosted Casey Kasem. |

Nick at Nite used to be so cool. Now it's boring. They should go back to the 50's and 60's shows and the tongue in cheek promos. Who remembers "How To Be Swell"???

Most of the early "Nick At Nite" sitcoms had nice, long, healthy runs. However, there was ONE classic sitcom that really received TERRIBLE treatment from NICK, just like "Wings" does now....
...and that sitcom was Danny Thomas' "Make Room For Daddy". That show was VERY funny, well-written and well-acted (and it was a true TV CLASSIC that did VERY well during it's original network run and years of syndicated reruns)...but for some strange reason NICK just didn't like it, and treated it (or rather MIStreated it) accordingly. "Daddy" ran at 9 PM for a couple of months...then it was rescheduled at a later hour...TOO late for that kind of a show.... ...and finally (after a VERY short time) it was taken off the schedule altogether....The reason? "Nobody was watching it and the ratings were terrible".... Sound familiar? |

And to Hawaii Five-O, I remember "How to be Swell". Also "The Milk Man". Plus that short lived sitcom "Hi Honey, I'm Home." If only I could invent a Time machine. I'd bring my VCR with me and just tape N@N all through the night. They had some cool commercials back then. As I've posted before, N@N is showing these shows from the 80's and 90's because it's what the people of my age grew up to. But in my case, I watched Classic N@N. So where does that leave me? If only TV Land would pick up "Patty Duke", "Dobie Gillis", and "Car 54". |

I also used to watch N@N when I was little...my sister and I used to watch "Bewitched" all the time. I remember that during that time, "Mr. Ed," "Dobie Gillis," and "Patty Duke" were also on. This discussion is really bringing back memories of sitting on my parents' bed with my sister watching N@N...I also remembr all those old promos, like the milkman one, and that song "Hello, out there from TV Land.."(or something like that)...and I do remember the New Year's countdowns with Casey Kasem, TV Adam. Ah, the memories!
