Yeah, I agree! First off, he and his siblings were adopted by Isaiah and Grace Edwards so why did everyone still call him 'John, Jr.'! His father had died even before his mother Julia (and we never once hear him talk about John, Sr.). Did he keep the original Sanderson or did he adopt the surname Edwards like his younger sibs? If he changed his surname, then it made no sense for him to keep calling himself 'John, Jr.' since there was no other Johns in the Edwards family!
2ndly, it was weird when he and Mary got engaged and Mr. Edwards gave them that piece of farmland but they barely even thanked him for that. Then John, Jr. decided he wanted to get more educated instead of getting married. .and Mary calmly accepted this with virtually no emotion but Mr. Edwards was downright mad!
The Edwardses abruptly left Walnut Grove but, after Isaiah became a regular again a few seasons later, it came out that he and John,Jr. had become more and more estranged until his untimely murder. This sent Mr. Edwards into an alcoholic tailspin even after he found out the murderers' ID and with Charles turned in a stunning expose on the city corruption John,Jr. had uncovered.
Yet, what's also odd about this is that the show didn't depict Mary's reaction to all this! I know that she had gone blind, ran the blind schools, got married, then tragically lost her own baby in that fire and her earlier romance with John, Jr. would have likely seemed a whole lifetime before but it would have been interesting to see how she reacted to the murder of her ex-fiance whom she once had pinned all her hopes and dreams on!

I thought John Jr. was weird! But, he has to have something that Mary likes!

Since we are John Jr. bashing, how about the time Mr. Edwards was attacked by the bear and John Jr. just stood there with his gun and let the bear maul him. I mean, I know he was kind of startled by the bear attack, but it also shows that John Jr. was only a thinker and not a doer(except when it came to cheating on Mary).
