Hello everyone ,

After a long time of thinking i decided to try my luck and write a fan fic.
This is the first fanfic i wrote all alone and I'll appreciate if you'll tell me what you think about it.

I have soooooooooo many ideas (like everyone else here i'm sure) how the season premiere will be like so this is just one of my many ideas .

Before you read i must say that English is not my native language so im sorry for any spelling/grammar etc. mistakes i probably have .

Guilty Conscience

Nate walked into the division holding a chocolate bar in one hand and coffee in the other. No one was there since it was an hour before the day started but since he couldn’t sleep he decided to go to work.

He sat down at his desk and looked at the Name Plate of his partner “Inspector Raina Washington” it said. He rubbed his eyes that were red from lack of sleep, took a sip from the coffee and started to work.

After ten minutes he heard a voice behind him “chocolate and coffee on the morning… tough night?” he turned around “morning Cap” he said with a little smile.
“Nate why are you here 50 minutes earlier when you’re not even working on a case?” Kate asked with a worried face. “Well, I’ve woke up early and decided to come and finish some paper work…you know there were times when people were appreciated for working over time” he said sarcastic. “Nate you know I appreciate you but you’re not sleeping and it’s not good for your health and for your job. I want to see you at my office during the day”. “Sure Cap no problem” he said. “Ok then, you can go back to work now” she said and turned around and walked slowly to here office using her walking stick.

After 30 minutes people were starting to come in. Raina came and sat down in front of Nate. They were working together for a month now and they were getting along pretty well. “Good morning Nate” she said smiling at him. He looked up “morning Raina” he said and smiled back.
Raina noticed Nate’s red eyes but since she already tried to talk to him about him not sleeping she decided to drop the subject and leave him alone for now.

“So how was your weekend?” Raina asked trying to find a subject to talk about. “It was nice, I stayed at home watched some TV, relaxed, nothing special. How about you? You and Johnny had a date?” He asked with a little grin. Raina looked at him and smiled “yeah, we went to see a movie and then we walked in the park holding hands…it was so romantic” and her smile got even more wider. “That’s great I’m happy for you two” he said. She smiled at him and they both went back to their paper work.

A few minutes later Jinny and Magda walked in together. “Good morning guys” they said in unison to Nate and Raina “morning” they replayed.
They both sat down and started to work on their case: a young man who was found dead in an ally.
“So, do you think the brother did it?” Jinny asked “ I don’t know” Magda said “all the evidence points at him but it looks too easy to me. Like we’re missing something”. “you’re right” she agreed “I had this feeling too. Want to try the girlfriend again? She looked like she was hiding something when we talked to her” Magda nodded “ok lets go”. They both got up and left the office.

So what do you think? Do you want me to continue?

After an hour of working on paper work Nate got up and went to buy a sandwich “want something from the vending machine?” he asked Raina “no I’m fine thanks” she replayed. “Ok but don’t try to call me when I’m there and ask me to bring you something” he smiled. “Don’t worry I think I can manage to walk the few feet to the vending machine if I want something” she smiled back and went back to her work.

Walking to the vending machine Nate suddenly stopped. He was standing right were Him and CD stood, where he told her that he broke up with Lilly and she started to yell at him. It was the same night when they first kissed at the hospital… a kiss he will never forget.
Nate was now fighting to hold himself from crying. He put one hand on the sandwich machine and said in a weak voice “God I miss her”. I tear fell down his cheek. He heard footsteps coming behind him. He immediately straiten up, wiped the tear and bought a sandwich. A cop passed behind him. He was relieved that it wasn’t someone from the division otherwise they will know something is wrong and start asking questions. Questions that he wasn’t ready to answer too. He took the sandwich and headed to his desk. He sat down and continued with his work.

Walking to the car Magda and Jinny didn’t talk to each other. Jinny was the one to break the silence “so, did you tell him?” “Tell who, what? What are you talking about Jin?” Magda said looking at her puzzled. “Come on Mag you know exactly what I mean! Did you talk to Gabe?” Magda was silent for a few seconds “oh that…no not yet” she said lowering her voice. “Mag you know it’s the right thing to do” Jinny said “its been over a month since you broke up with Jonah and I think its about time you tell Gabe. If you won’t tell him now he will find out sooner or later and then it will be even harder to deal with”. “Your right Jin” Magda said “I’ll tell him today I promise”. She did want to tell him about the affair she had but she never could find the right moment and the right words to tell him.

The day went by with no special events. Nate and Raina were working on paper work all day long, while Magda and Jinny were questioning people related to the young man found dead.
At the end of the day just before going home Nate saw Kate sitting in her office. He remembered she asked him to come in and talk to her during the day. He thought to himself that that was the last thing he wanted to do now but he had to.
Nate knocked on Kate’s office door. “Come in” Kate said. “Hey Cap you wanted to see me?” “ohh hey Nate come in, sit down” Kate said taking her glasses off.
“What’s going on?” Nate asked like he didn’t know what’s the conversation is about.
“I think I should ask you this question” Kate said. Nate didn’t say anything he just looked at Kate with a ‘I know and you know something is wrong and I don’t want to talk about it’ face.
“Talk to me Nate! What’s going on with you?” Kate asked seriously. “Nothing is going on, I’m perfectly fine” he replayed. “Come on Nate we both know you’re not ok. You don’t sleep, you’re not focused on your job and you’re depressed most of the time. Talk to me!”. “Look, nothing is wrong with me, I’m fine and I don’t need anyone to talk too. So please lets drop the subject!” he said angrily and with that he got up and headed towards the door.

“It’s not your fault, you know” Kate said quietly. Nate stopped just before exiting the office. “She went there by herself, not informing anyone, not calling for backup. She knew better than that. There was nothing you could do to prevent what happened” she said. “I was her partner I should have been there!” with that he turned around and faced Kate again.
“How could you be there? She didn’t tell you she is going to Liz’s apartment. She didn’t tell anyone she is going” Kate said getting a little angry herself that CD did it.
Nate sat down on the chair again. “I know that” he said. “I just feel like….like I should have been there. Instead of protecting her I just sat in the restaurant angry….” he didn’t finish the sentence. “Angry about what Nate?” Kate asked confused “why is Nate sat in a restaurant angry and what CD has to do with that?” she thought to herself. She didn’t know about him and CD being together (although after that conversation she started to suspect something was going on) and Nate didn’t want to tell her…at least not now.
Kate saw that Nate was about to cry so she stopped the conversation right at that moment. “Nate” she said, Nate looked at her “go home get some sleep and you can take tomorrow off. I want you here on Wednesday fresh and ready to work. Deal?”
“Deal” Nate replayed “Thanks Cap for everything” Nate got up from the chair. “Anytime” she smiled “and Nate remember if you want to talk I’m here for you 24/7” she said. Nate smiled, left the office and went home.

When Magda came home that night Gabe was watching T.V and Ben was lying next to him sleeping.
“Hey honey” Gabe said “How was work today?”. “The usual, nothing special” she said. “How was Ben?” Magda asked. “He was great. He fell asleep about 20 minutes ago”. Gabe now got up took Ben in his hands and put him in his bed. When he came back Magda sat on the couch “Gabe can you come here please I need to talk to you” she said. “What’s wrong?” Gabe asked looking a little confused. He sat down on the couch next to Magda.
“Well…something happened and I need to talk to you about it” she said taking a big breath. “Is everything alright honey? You’re not sick or anything, right?” He asked nervously. “No I’m not sick Gabe. But…what I’m going to tell you is….ok I’ll stop stalling and get to the point….”

The next day Raina was teamed up with Magda and Jinny to help them with their investigation since Nate had the day off. They spend most of the morning driving around San Francisco looking for the victim’s sister who was a major witness in the case.

Kate was sitting in her office going through some files when the phone rang. “McCafferty” she answered.
“Ohhh hey nice to hear from you. How are you? … Of course I remember you…it hasn’t been that long” she laughed.
After she finished the phone call she got up and went out of her office. “Magda, Jinny and Raina” she called them “do you mind coming here for a second?” They all looked at each other a little puzzled. They got up and went to Kate’s office. “What’s up Cap” Jinny asked. “Well…I’m having some old friends tomorrow for dinner and I love it if you all come too…you know the old cops meeting the new cops” she smiled. “Sounds great” Jinny said count me in. “Me too” Magda said. “Me too” Raina added. “Great then I’ll see you all tomorrow at 9:00 pm…ohh and can someone please inform Nate too?”. “I’ll do it” Raina said. “Great thanks Raina! Ok now get out of here you have a case to solve”.

Raina left the office quickly because she had a date with Johnny.
Magda was just about to exit the office when Jinny caught up with her. “You didn’t tell him ”she said. “Actually…I did”. She replayed. “Really? And…?” She asked a little surprised since Magda didn’t look upset or anything all day long.
“Do you want talk at the Anchorside?” Jinny asked. “Sounds great” Magda replayed.
They went to the Anchorside, ordered something to drink and sat down next to a corner table.
“Well” Magda started to talk “I told Gabe what happened between me and Jonah”.
“At the beginning he was pretty shocked…he couldn’t say anything. Then he just got up and left the house”. Magda said. “At that moment I just broke …I couldn’t hold myself anymore and I started to cry. I was sure my marriage is over”. “Oh Mag I’m so sorry…you should have called me I would have come to be with you” Jin said and put her hand on Magda’s shoulder. “Well I was about to call you but then Gabe came back” She said wiping her eyes. “He just sat next to me. Then he asked me: ‘did you really break up with him?’. I told him yes and that I love him and Ben more that anything in the world and that they are the most important people in my life”. “Than he hugged me and he too started to cry. I said I was sorry and he said that we both made mistakes in our life and during our marriage and we will work this out. We will go to couples therapy if necessary”.
Magda started to cry. Jinny got up and hugged her. “I’m happy you worked this out. It was the right thing to do” she said silently. They stayed there for a few minutes until Magda relaxed a bit.
“Ok…come on now…you have a husband and a son waiting for you” Jinny said smiling. Magda laughed “Thanks Jinny…You’re the best”.
They both got up and left the Anchorside.

The next morning Nate woke up at 6:30 when his alarm clock went off.
He spent most of his day off relaxing and sleeping. He was so tired from lack of sleep that even though he constantly thought about what happened he manage to sleep good for a few hours.
He got up and took a long cold shower, after freshening up a little bit he ate breakfast and read the morning paper: “Killed his brother and was caught thanks to his sister….” He smiled “great job girls” he thought to himself.
He finished his coffee and went to work.

The day passed by pretty fast with no special events.
Raina helped Jinny and Magda write the report on their last case so most of the day Nate did some small paperwork and at noon he decided to go to the shooting range and practice.
At the end of the day the inspectors went home earlier since they had to be by Kate’s house at 9:00 p.m.
“You’re coming today, right?” Raina asked Nate just before she left the office. “sure” he replayed “I wouldn’t miss it”. “Great” she smiled “then I’ll see you later. Bye”. “seeya” He nodded.

About an hour and a half later Nate was parking his car in front of Kate’s house. He saw that Jinny’s and Magda’s cars were there so he was relieved that he wasn’t the first one to come. As he was walking to the front door he heard a car stopping behind him and someone getting out of it. He didn’t bother to turn around and see who was it he just figured it was one of the guests. He was just about to ring the doorbell when he heard a voice calling him “Nate…what are you doing here?”……..
