Default It's just not for everybody

I just didn't like the show. I prefer some of today's shows to this (notice that I used the word "some"). And if you think that that is because I'm ignorant and unintelligent, think again: I'm attending a very prestigious college, my favorite movies are the art-house types that make you think, and I love to read. There are some other older shows that I immensely enjoy, such as "Happy Days," "Charles in Charge," "Bewitched," "Starsky and Hutch," and "I Love Lucy," (even though it's dated and sexist, which angers the out of me!!! ), just to name a few. But this one never really worked for me. Part of it is because, in my opinion, it condoned ignorance, which in my opinion is just as bad as condoning racism or people trying to strangle other people with their own religion. The hick humor personally turned me way off. Plus, the Gabor sisters are an aquired taste. I'm just expressing my opinions here--if you people can't deal with that, then obviously you aren't mature, rational adults.

I certainly liked the show, altho I can see why some people didnt, as for I Love Lucy being sexist, that is the way it was...I think that is one of the reason the show worked so well....

Your opinion is a valid one, but I definitely can't agree that GA "condoned ignorance." Ignorance was the subject of much of its humor, but the show just made a joke out of it. You say you liked "Bewitched;" do you think, then, that "Bewitched" condoned spells and chants and mystical powers, or did it make a joke out of them? In the same way, "All in the Family" didn't condone bigotry, but it made a joke out of it.

Sure, no one is going to like every show. but there is no need to put them down saying they condone what they make fun of, if you don't apply that standard to every show, including those you enjoy.

One question... why come to a board to BASH the show.... if you want to bash Green Acres go to the Bewitched board (or some other board) and talk about how much better Bewitched is than Green Acres. This is a fan board!

I agree, I've never understood people who seek out message boards for shows they don't like! Your more than entitled to your opinion, but why not join a board for shows that you do like? Anyway, I really don't see the characters on Green Acres as being ignorant. Their attitudes may not be the same as people who live in cities, but that doesn't make them ignorant. Besides, there are many subtle lines from characters such as Eb that suggest these characters aren't quite as they may appear. I also love Eva Gabor. I think she has a great flair for comedy. As for shows like I Love Lucy and Bewitched, again I think there's a lot more going on beneath the surface. It may seem to some that Lucy and Samantha are the victims of their husbands sexism, but aren't they actually quite independent and powerful? They both seem to me to be the ones who actually have their husbands under their thumb.
