Default Swimming

I hope I'm not alone in this- but is there anyone else here that can't swim, or can only swim like 10 metres?

On the 2nd September there's a school trip to go to (part of our schools 'getting to know you, getting to know all about you' programme- more like 'getting to embarrass you') and it's an outdoor pursuit centre. On the letter I got, it says on the permission slip 'waterbased activities'- I'm kinda worried that'll mean fully fledged swimming. I went to an outdoor centre similar were you choose what to do, so I avoided swimming (instead we walked about in water for no reason), I hope that's what'll happen this time. And not going's out of the question, cos if you don't go then everyone will probably know each other but me

Though at the end of term in July one of my other friends, a weak swimmer, and a fellow water-hater said he is taking the day off-well 2 of them said it (but one of them is all talk, and will go, the other- I'm not sure) so i figure then at least I don't have to be alone as the non-swimmer, non-participator (just like in pe were I formed a group of 5 who didn't do PE- that way we all shared the telling off). Anyone else can't swim and hates activities like it???

Lets put it this way, if I saw someone drowning and I tried to save them we both would be dead, I'm a terrible swimmer.

I don't know if I'd still be able to do it....I haven't gone swimming in like, 2 years. I'm not a big fan, LOL. And I hate hate hate the smell of chlorine. Gross.

No I can't swim. I am afraid of deep water, boats, and docks.

You guys don't know what you're missing. Swimming is a lot of fun and one of the best forms of exercise. It is a usefull skill. Children as well as adults should at least attempt to learn how to swim. It's the only way to overcome fear of the water.

I swim laps almost every day at my local YMCA. It really is good excercise, you guys should at least give it a try.

I don't really fear the water, I have a boat and use it regularly, I guess what i'm trying to say is I respect the water, being that i'm not a very good swimmer.

I'm not the best swimmer, but I guess I wouldn't say I CAN'T. I've never been in water deep enough to tell, besides when I used to take lessons at the YMCA when I was like 8 lol. I'm not big on swimming, though. I just don't like getting wet and all that junk, and then you smell like chlorine after. Ick. I guess I'll have to get used to it though, because I have to take a swim class for a whole semester this year.

I can swim- I know what to do, but Im afraid to. I dont go under water for anything either.. thats what Im most afraid of. Its not drowning because I know I wont, but I dont like going under water. I dont dive, go down slides or do any of those games. I went down one slide @ Water Country once and I hated it. Log rides are different though. I dont even get into tubes if a bunch of people are in a pool, because people like to horse around and knock you over and I dont find that amusing at all.

I'm not so much afraid of water- every year at school we'd go swimming for a couple weeks, and after a while I'd get back into the idea of how to swim, but then we stop, and I go for a while then stop altogether and have to start all over again. Then again- I also used to be afraid of heights-there's a shopping centre I go to and on the second floor (which is VERRRY high) you can look over the edge to the first, and you walk accross a little bridge to get to the other shops on the second floor, and I never looked to the side-but now I don't mind heights- I even climbed a small cliff (but I'm afraid of absailing).
