Well, I know in football, offensive players (mainly running backs, tight ends, and wide receivers) do it. The defensive players who are trying to stop the first down in the first place don't like it too well when the offensive team succeeds. It could be many reasons: 1. It's a big play that keeps a team's scoring chances alive. 2. To ruffle the other team's feathers (or to just make them plain upset). 3. To get their own team hyped up (basically a confidence booster). In baseball, players steal bases after big leads because they feel that since the opposition is losing by like 4+ runs, they really don't concentrate on a base runner as much as they should. Another reason is that it follows ABC baseball. What is ABC baseball? A method of trying to score a run safely. With a runner or runners on base.... A - try to get a hit or bunt to move the runners up one base B - the next hitter in the batting order allows the runners on base to attempt to steal a base to try to get someone on third C - that same hitter tries to get a hit or a bunt to bring the runner from third base home (if an out is occured, as long as it is less than 2, it will be scored as a sacrifice and not a fielder's choice even though it is technically a fielder's choice; if a base hit is made, that will be scored as an RBI single; and if an extra-base hit is made, that will be scored as an RBI double or RBI triple; if multiple runners score on a base hit or extra-base hit, that will scored as a 2-run single, double, or triple) |

I never understood why a special teams player would celebrate after making a tackle on a kick return. THAT's THERE JOB!
