Default Martin Luther King Speech at the end of "Vanessa's Bad Grade" really confused me

because nothing else in the episode had nothing to do with MLK. The episode went from a silly moment straight to a serious monent once the huxtables entered the lving room. I didn't see any significance because he was killed in 1968 and that episode was in 1985 so it wasn't a 20 year anniversary. And the month he was killed was in April and that episode was not aired in April so i'm just trying to figure out why the episode ended with a MLK sppech. Anyone know?

And I think that another observation that can be pointed out is that Vanessa and Denise were fighting each other because of Vanessa wearing Denise's sweater without permission and that MLK's speech is trying to promote nonviolence towards one another and living in harmony with one another. When both of them were listening and watching the speech on TV, you could see in their facial expressions that they should put their differences aside.

Maybe I'm wrong about this, but that's just my take on what happened.

actually it was in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Day.

* In honor of Martin Luther King Day, the episode concludes with the Huxtables and Robert watching Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech on television.

It could have been a little more reference to MLK during the episode which would have made the ending a little better. They were just walking out of the kitchen and all of a sudden the sppech is on.
