hahaha I forgot how funny this episode was! I remembered that I liked it a lot, but it was even funnier than I remembered.
It's so funny when they start the first day of Joe's class, and he asks each of them why they want to learn to fly, and Helen says, "flying is... orgasmic!" and Joe's like, "uh, ok...." and then he says "what about you, Lowell?" and Lowell goes, "Helen took my answer!" hahahaha ![]() and then Lowell sharpening his pencils in class. that had me cracking up because he was so obnoxious about it, and then Joe goes over and chucks the pencil sharpener across the room. hehehe. and I liked that part when Joe and Helen kind of brought up the dating thing again and got all shy about it again. hehe. but then Joe says something like, "yeah, what were we thinking?" and Helen goes, "we were probably thinking that we'd fall madly in love, get married, and live deleriously happy for the rest of our lives..." I love the way they stared at each other for a second after that. hehe. and then they were both like, "ppff! yeah right!" lol. and then at the end of the episode after Helen landed the plane, she was hiding because she thought Joe was going to be really mad at her, and when he found her, she was like, "Joe, don't yell at me!" but he grabbed her and kissed her, and then she was like, "I guess I deserved that." ![]() and I cracked up when Joe was like, "Let's... DATE!" and they were both like and I know there were other funny parts, but I can't think of them at the moment... what about you guys? |

"Airport 90" is one of those early episodes that I thought was "just funny" the first time that I saw it...but this second viewing has elevated it to "Classic Episode" status in my eyes.
The idea of giving the non-flying characters a shot at being pilots was a great idea, and there were lots of funny lines by everyone. I loved the bit with the head-bandaged Brian on the stretcher, acting delirious: "No Helen...put down that gun...we can't take Joe's plane..it would be WRONG!"...and then Joe's eye-rolling as he says to the paramedics, "Get him outta here!". This episode (with the characters studying to be pilots) gave me another thought....I like how throughout the "Wings" series, the characters would occassionaly fill in doing the other characters' jobs. Antonio and Lowell would fill in at Helen's lunch counter, Antonio and Casey filled in at Fay's reservation desk, etc.... it kept the characters from being "pigeon-holed" and gave them a chance to be funny doing something besides their regular job. |

Attitude? How's my attitude? It stinks!!
Just quoting Helen.I love this whole episode. Krista already mentioned alot of moments, but there were a few more I liked. Lowell sharpening all those pencils, only to find out that he needed a No.2 pencil, which he didn't have. Roy getting back at Lowell by slapping him in the face, too, then saying bye to each other as if nothing happened. Finally, Lowell's response upon seeing Helen & Joe kiss, "Wow, what some people will do for a higher grade".

I absolutely LOVE this episode. The chemistry, as always, is great between Joe and Helen (what a kiss!) and it was so funny. I love how it's funny all the way until the very end, when Lowell says, "What some people won't do for a higher grade."
I also think the whole scene in the airplane with Helen and Brian is hilarious, when they're getting a little bit TOO into flying the plane! This is one of my favorite episodes.

Lowell reminded me of Spongebob in this episode..... I just realized this when I watched it a second time.
I don't know if any of you actually watch "Spongebob Squarepants", but it's a running thing on the cartoon that Spongebob wants his boating licence, and there are a bunch of episodes about boating school, and Spongebob always tries to suck up to the teacher, and be a really good student, but he always just ends up annoying the teacher. So in this episode of Wings, Lowell totally reminded me of Spongebob a bunch of different times like when he erased something in his notes and instead of blowing the eraser shavings off of his desk quietly, he was making an obnoxious spitting noise, and then when he was sharpening every pencil he had with an electric pencil sharpener while Joe was trying to talk, and then when he didn't have not even one #2 pencil out of about 50 that were on his desk. lol. I dunno, but he totally reminded me of Spongebob in this episode. hehe |
