...Well? Anyone like this band who're a mix of, let's say.. The Ramones, The Buzzocks and Husker Du?
I love their album "Dookie". Yes, strange name, but great music. Opinions? |

Green Day is cool. I have the album 'Dookie' and I listen to it every so often. Haven't really heard anything else they've done except 'Time of Your Life,' which is a good song.
I like the cover of 'Dookie' it's pretty funny. |

Buzzocks is most likely the closest influence, with a dose of- believe it or not- early Joe Jackson. I was always annoyed with faux British twange Billy Jo always threw in on Dookie. "take me away to pair-ah-doyce" Yuck. |

I dug 'em when I was a kid, but they just don't do it for me anymore. It's probably been over four years since I listened to any of my Green Day CDs. They're just not my cup of tea anymore.

Okay, maybe not so surprised...They of course are some of the most important punk bands in the history of rock and roll. One of the first punk albums I ever bought was "A Different Kind of Tension" by the Buzzcocks in 1980.Have you heard Bob Mould and Sugar? "Black Sheets of Rain" by Bob Mould is a good album. Not punk, but very good. "Helpless" was a good song by Sugar about 10 years ago. "Dookie" was a strange title, yes (pronounced like "kooky"), but so was Umma Gumma by Pink Floyd. |

You know what "Dookie" is, right?
Btw, I was about ready to hurl when they actually used "Good Riddance" on a Seinfeld episode. How punk is that?? It still sounds like "Dust In the Wind" by Kansas. I like Green Day, of course, but I just have a negative picture of that song when it was used on a t.v. show. Punk's supposed to be abrasive, not cute. |

) that The Ramones were the band who definitely defined Punk. "What an insult to the ramones" would vary on your opinion of Green Day.

I haven't heard enough Husker Du, but I thought they were good. I really got into the Buzzcocks way back when. I liked their song "Everybody's Happy Nowadays," even though it wasn't on the album I bought.
You know what really drives me crazy?? They have a new Guitar World special issue, entitled "Punk'd!!" on the front, which has articles and lessons on how to play punk songs. REAL PUNKS DON'T NEED LESSONS!!!!! And a lot of the issue focused on the mall-jammer pop-punk/ thing, like Blink-182, etc., not the real late 70's/80's hardcore deal. Punk is so simple, you just pick up the guitar and jam away. Okay, it's more than power chords and all that, but they make the whole think of playing punk like it's brain surgery. If you want to be a better punk musician, learn other styles and incorporate them into your music. It won't kill you.About Green Day, my favorite songs would be: Longview Basket Case When I Come Around is okay Brain Stew/Jaded and there's a really cool fast song they do, and I can't remember the name of it... It's kinda popular, but now I can't think of what it's called...There are some other good songs, but why don't they play any of their newer stuff on the radio?? The Seinfeld episode they used Good Riddance on was one of those cheesy feel-good "Best of" episodes... It's not a bad song, but it's like when a rockin'-ass band has their BALLAD become their most popular song. Like "Beth" by KISS.One thing that impresses me about Green Day is that they seem to have a real 70's British feel about them, even though they're from Orange County.
