Sad Why no cats on Bewitched?

You notice how in the opening cartoon credits of the show how Darren and Samantha are in the kitchen and he kisses her and she disappears, then he's wondering where she went when this cat nuzzles him and leaps up into his arms and turns back into Samantha?

So I was wondering: Why weren't there any cats on Bewitched?? It would have been the perfect pet, y'know, black cats, witches, Halloween, etc.

At least they had a "cat" on Sabrina.

Absolutely. I've always thought the same thing too!! it would have been good to have a cat in the Halloween episodes etc. I dont think the Stephen's ever had a pet did they?

Aside from all the times Endora turned Derwood into a newt, I don't think so.

There was an episode with the plotline featuring a woman client being turned into a cat (I think it was Endora who turned her into one but I'm not exactly sure at this moment) There was also a two-parter that was recently aired in which Serena turned Darrin's mother into a cat.

There were cats used for certain episodes, but it was never a constant thing unlike Salem on Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Good point Captain. It seems to me that the Stephens should have owned a cat, a black one. Cats and witches just go together.

Elizabeth Montgomery had a Siamese cat called Zip Zip.... and it seems that a Siamese cat was always used in most of the episodes featuring cats (in one of the movies that inspired the series, "Bell, Book, and Candle", Pyewacket was a Siamese, too):

"The Cat's Meow"- Darrin thinks a stray cat is Samantha spying on him. He brings the cat home and gives it to Sam. (I think Endora adopted it and named it Ophelia )

"Ling Ling"- Sam changes a cat into a Jewel of the East model.

"The Catnapper"- Endora changes a female client of Darrin's into a cat (she refers to it a a tabby this time, though.)

"Mrs. Stephens, Where Are You?" Serena turns Darrin's mother into a yellow-orange cat. She's adopted by the neighborhood cat lady. (about 20 there )

"The Eight-Year Itch Witch"- Endora turns her familiar, Ophelia the cat (back to Siamese, again) , into a lady to seduce Darrin.

BTW, I don't think Darrin was ever turned into a newt

A cat would have been an especially good addition after Tabatha came into the picture. Tabatha could have had an on going, special friendship with the cat.

Yeh it always amazed me that the Stephen's never had a regular pet on the show, a cat or a dog, even though those animals appeared in certain episodes. There could hav ebeen real potential storylines there.

Talking Cats and dogs

Anyone remember the episode where this cat-person and dog-person from another planet came by and gave whiny old Mrs. Kravitz a shot of "nice" spray, and while she screamed "HEEEEEEELLLLLL--" her cry for help turned into a greeting: "HEEEEEEELLLLLLOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!"

That was a funny episode.

"Sam's Secret Saucer." I love that episode. The aliens kept making fun of Darrin's ears.

Ah, while we're naming cats on Bewitched, don't forget the one from "Twitch or Treat" that Sam describes at "pure alley." She was funny. In human form, especially.

"Sam's Secret Saucer", is also one of my favourites too!! Hilarious. I love it because it was sadly Aunt Clara's last appearance which I always feel sad about as Bewitched lost a really appealing feature with Aunt Clara disappearing. I love the way the Dog alien goes" ruff" at Darrin. Dick York's reaction is priceless

That's a great idea. I'm surprised nobody thought of it back then.
