Make sure you have, AND KEEP FREQUENTLY UPDATED these things:

A Virus Scanner

A Firewall

A program that finds and deletes "Spyware" and "Adware".

Other tips after you get these:

Don't use "KaZaA" or any other file-sharing program to download full versions of Virus Scanners/Firewalls, just go spend the 40 - 50 bucks and do it right. Like with the registering and everything. The Spyware/Adware removal programs are free, I'm pretty sure, so I guess you can get them from KaZaA. I wouldn't, though. I'd still go to their websites and get them.

Be sure to run the Spyware/Adware scanner, and the Virus Scanner to scan your computer at least once a week. I'd do the Spyware/Adware Removal program scanner at least once a day, especially when you're done using the Internet)

Make sure your Virus Scanner and Firewall are always running, ESPECIALLY if you are on the Internet; and MORE ESPECIALLY, (Not really a real phrase I don't think, lol) if you have any sort of an "Always on" Internet connection such as Cable, DSL, Satellite, etc. And MOST ESPECIALLY have them on if you're using any File-sharing network such as "KaZaA".

Hope this helps! If you want my suggestions on what of each type to use, post and say so. Good luck!

There could be a lot of reasons, but to break it down, we need to eliminate the possibilities - it could be due to:

a second (or more) virus/trojan/worm - this has actually been the busiest week in history for viruses
spyware/malware - what shareware/freeware stuff have you installed, have you run a check with Spybot or AdAware?
it could be a driver problem or corrupt system files - have you added or changed any hardware lately?
it could be a software conflict, or problems with temp files/cache etc.
there is a slim chance that the problem is hardware related, the best way to test that out is to see if it still runs slow in safemode (hold down the CTRL key, or tap the F8 function key as you boot up it should give you an advanced startup menu, select safemode)
What OS do you have (XP, 98, ME)?
My best suggestion is to:
- first get HijackThis download the prog, then open it, click on the "Misc Tools" button, then the "generate StartupList Log" button. This will scan your system and create a list of everything running with Windows in a notepad file. Copy the contents and paste them here (or PM me if you prefer) then close the program.
- i may not get to it for a day or so, so in the meantime get Spybot (i use both that and AdAware 6
- make sure you have updated antivirus and run a full check, you can get AVG antivirus for free or you can do a free, online scan at trendmicro's housecall
- see if you can get into safemode to see if it runs any faster, it will be low resolution, and will have only the essentials running. While you are in there, do a disk cleanup (on the start menu under Accessories), and scandisk(not a thorough scan).

of course, after I looked further down the posts, I saw your post about the Sobig virus, so follow Norton's removal instructions, and let us know if there is any more problems....

What everyone needs to realize is that the MSBLAST virus was not SUPPOSED to do any damage to your computer - it was just intended to spread to as many pc's as possible in the least amount of time, so that it could attack MS's windows update site. It could very easily have done any number of nasty things to your computer, we just got lucky this time, so as ConservativeBaller and others have said, protect yourself - keep in mind that the patch to prevent this worm from infecting your machine was available THREE WEEKS BEFORE this virus hit.
