Default Endora and Mr. Stephens

One of the rarely mentioned parts of "Bewitched", that I always find so enjoyable is the flirting that always goes on between Endora and Frank Stephens when the senior Stephens visit Samantha and Darrin. It's at its best in the wonderful "It's Wishcraft", episode which also has some of the best "confrontation" scenes between Endora and Phyllis.
Strangely it only occurs between Endora and Frank when Frank is played by Robert F. Simon in more of the earlier episodes. Once Roy Roberts plays the role Endora was always more formal with him.
Didn't know if other watchers had noticed this

No, I haven't noticed that.

But I did noticed the actor Roy Roberts on Bewitched for he played Mr. Harrison Cheever, the Westland Bank President, during the last couple of years (1966-1968 seasons) on The Lucy Show. Ironically, his last television appearance was on another Lucille Ball sitcom called Here's Lucy.

Yes Lucy fan, Roy Roberts was a very active actor on sit coms in the 1960's appearing on many of the top ones apart from "Bewitched".. he had a very dignified air about him . I just seem to notice when he plays Frank Stephens that it appears some of the fun between Frank and Endors seems to be missing. I dont know whether it was because Robert F. Simon (the first Frank in earlier episodes) was I believe a bit younger than Roberts or perhaps a little more handsome that the writers had more flirting going on. Its just an observation but I'd suggest watch a couple of episodes with each that also invlove Endora and see what you think. I'd be interested in others observations on this.
Cheers

Robert F Simon not only played Frank Stephens in the earlier episodes but in the last episodes after Roy Roberts. Has anybody notice that?

Yes they seemed to hire which ever of the two actors was available when an episode called for Frank Stephens to be present. Robert F. Simon played frank the most times I believe and he returned to the role after Roy Roberts had played him a few times for the last episode in which Frank and Phyllis were featured which was the last episode of Season Seven. I liked both actors but I think Robert F. Simon was my favourite of the two and I liked his scenes with Endora, they were good fun.

There really was a chemistry between Agnes Moorehead and Robert F. Simon. They were both very fun characters.

I agree! But Phyllis (Mrs. Stephens) always managed to put a damper on the flirting between them.

They appreciated each other. Phyllis also seemed to take her husband for granted and was always complaining, which certainly doesn't help.

Very true. She was a nag and a killjoy - never a good combination.
