Yea, I heard this on the radio today. That before they asked Richard Gere they asked John Travolta! I could NOT see him playing that part. I don't even think he could fit in. OOOOOOO, that annoyed me when I heard that. Good thing he turned it down! I dunno I just don't think it would have gotten the same outcome if he was Billy Flynn. I just think Richard Gere was perfect. *Shrugs* Oh well. But for some reason I couldn't PICTURE him in that setting. I dunno, I guess he's a pretty good actor. I think he's kinda ugly, and I personally don't like Grease (WHY DID THEY HAVETA FLY AWAY IN A CAR?!?!?!), but STILL. I can't picture anyone BUT Richard Gere playing that part. Ok, George Clooney just popped into my head but I still think that Richard Gere was the better man.

John Travolta, Kevin Spacey, and Hugh Jackman were all considered for the role of Billy Flynn, and Madonna, Goldie Hawn, Kathy Bates, Rosie O'Donnel, Nicole Kidman Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz and Britney Spears were also considered for roles.

when I heard the broadway cast recording before seeing the film Chicago- I imagined Kathy Bates would've played a great Mama Morton. I also imagined that if he were alive that the bank manager guy from 'The Lucy Show' could've been Billy. Call me crazy.
