fanfic: prelude to "doppleganger by post" - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

friends, it has been suggested to me to create a story to delve into the form of concept as TZ was. can i do it? i don't know yet. but i begin this thread with my multipart story.
i ask that, unlike the previous stories where we all pitched in, this one is different and will be written by me, alone. please, give me suggestions or criticisms as i go.

"doppleganger by post"

as any day on my mail route i encounter al kinds of situations. mostly, i work listening to the radio. i have about 680 or so boxes on my route. one place on my route is interesting, somedays more than others.
if you know anything about NASCAR, you know what petty enterprises is. it is on my route. i rode by the pit crew practicing and i started to feel funny. something strange happened. instead of turning to the left as i leave the compound, i turn to the right. it is lunch time and i am meeting some co workers at our favorite pizza place. i thought.
instead i go to town and meet with dignitaries from a place called "noah". it seems that i have been selected to be the new dictator. WHAT?? our city managemant has concoted some wierd idea of me in politics. true i have catered the idea a time or two.
they tell me that the current leader had taken ill and to keep peace with rebel forces, i am to take his place during this time. and i will do it by force.
they swamp me with tons of info about this guy. i am to memorize it all. an hour later, we leave and ride by the pizza place, and i see my friends and myself enjoyng each others company. wait a minute. "that's me." how? i'm in the car

ray, carol, and diane have a great lunch. ray is not himself. he has an appointment soon with the city council, but since he is with two great ladies, he says it can wait. but as they leave, he goes to the '91 lumina full of mail and instinctively leaves in it. and confused as to why. "this is my car but it is not", he thinks.
after finishing the route, he goes to the city offices. nobody knows about a meeting. after so long, he goes home. to a house he never saw before. but it is all by instinct. like something has taken over his thoughts.

before gettting to noah, bobby realizes that he had seen this before in a movie called "moon over parador". "must be dreaming" it, he thought. but in time he knows it is no dream. he is in a position of command. he takes risks. and they pay off. his dictatorship becomes a thing of prosperity. but he misses the life he used to know. his friends.

ray is having lunch again with his friends. in a life he never knew before. by now he has become an extreme political activest. for almost every cause. his coworkers are seeing a new side of him that is to bother them. he talks of "perfect politics". and pushes it to where he gets local offices under his thumb. and then wins a seat in county government. and he starts to take charge. no one is prosporous now. thanks to him, local tax revenue increased. he is getting a stranglehold on the county. life is about to change for everyone.

ok
the real me is in noah learning to be a dictator.
the other me goes by the name of ray, my middle name. as i am trying to make a good prosperous life in noah. the other me is starting his own dictatorship.
how can this be corrected? how did they switch places? what will carol and diane do when they find out they are with a different person?
how can this be corrected and everybody get back to the right place?

a couple of years have passed by.
bobby has taken complete control over noah. and has the country turned into an economic powerhouse. the medical aid situation has vastly improved on this large pacific island nation. taxes are down.

ray has become senator after the two years of local politics. his senate race had been smeared but he still gained control. his support of trade agreements have him in a bad place. the entire nation is crumbling. his bid for the presidentcy is blooming.

but in noah, his fellow politicians grow weary of all the success. they want repression to govern the people. but bobby is not showing the signs of a dictator as he was supposed to. he has become a favoured leader.
after thinking about how life is, he realizes that this is not his life. it is someone else's and he wants his back. after thinking on it for a while, he remembers the day at PE where something happened.
so he wants to go back. he realizes that this is some sort of parallel world. he tries many time to stowaway on a ship. tonight he was going to try again. but he was met at the door by an assistant. the man reaches for his gun....

....and he is beaten by it. the man identifies himself as a memebr of the noahan secret police. his job is to bring their leader back.

six years have passed. since ray qiut delivering mail, tina has taken over his route. as she ride's by the pit crew area something catches her eye. she sees bobby and the man. she tells carol of this. she doesn't believe her. but it does get her curious. after work, she goes by and sees the same thing. a few years ago, they were best friends. but since he got into politics, they grew totally apart. but she wants to relive those times. she calls his name and he hears her. he cries for her. she walks towards him and then, she is with him. a prisoner.
they get to noah's palace and he explains his current life. and the desire to get back to what he once knew. as they talk, her counterpart in this parallel world intrudes. they are both surprised and then argue. but carol took kickboxing. in the end, the counterpart is dead. so they run.

but ray is now a top presidential advisor. that's big nice words for puppet master. his will has put the US in turmoil. but the white house has been raided by the "people's rebellion", an armed group that has recovered their guns from the government. ray is in luck, he got a tip off. so he runs for supplies and then he just runs for his safety.

bobby has had noah lifted to all degree of prosperity. but his associates want complete control. but he has lead them in the opposite direction. the government officials want the people ruled over but can't with him in charge so they tried to make him see things their way. but he didn't budge. bobby is a decent man. wanting only the good for the people of noah.
they are hounded by the "good guys" of noahan government. given time, they reach their destination.

ray has realized that he must go back to noah for safety. he runs and kills all in his path. no one is safe. he knows where he must go. he gets close but the gate is locked. the hounds follow him. in a panic rage, he tears into the fence.

carol and bobby get to a fence. it is locked. he manages to get help from up the street. they get in the fence and run for the pit area. the noahan officials follow. no time to get there. they see the place and continue to run. gunshots fire. and make contact.

the hounds close in. ray runs to the pit area. he knows there has to be a doorway back to noah here somewhere. he can't find it.

bobby and carol can't find a doorway, but they know it's there. carol's hand goes throught he wall. they see it. and jump forth just as bullets spray at them.

ray finds his door and is hit by a barrage of machine gun fire from the government.

they found home. in a world they left. carol reaches over to a bloody friend. she cries as she sees where the bullets hit. she know there is no hope.
ray is found motionless. the hounds tear into thim. the men see that he had been shot repeatedly with an automatic rifle, not the pistols they used.

they both lay dead. noah has lost its savior instead of its intended dictator. this world lost a bad politician. but in reality lost one of the last good guys around. a great mailman. and carol lost her future life as it were meant to be.
but they are all where they should be.

two diffrent worlds of expectations from the "same" man. one destined to rule with an iron fist. one destined for a simple happy life delivering mail. both had their plans and acted on them. but on the wrong world.
the object of this story is simple: when you pass by yourself, stop and ask 'is my life all that bad? maybe i should trade places with somebody else". should you? or should you just be grateful with what you have. and be more thankful that you do not go through strange doors that lead to, the R-zone.
