"Friends Or Lovers?" episode - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

yo!

no one's really been talking much about episodes lately. (actually, no one's really been talking much at all here lately. poo. )

well, this ep was on last night, so let's talk about it! lol.

I like this episode.

One of my favorite parts tho is when Joe and Helen are in Joe's office talking about whether or not they should go ahead and go out on a date. I like that whole scene there, but the part that makes me giggle like crazy is when Joe is like, "ok uuhhh.... you're alluring... and you're intriguing... and something else, and when I'm sleeping you dance through the Netherlands."

hehehehe.

and then Joe and Helen in the last scene- every time they try to kiss each other, they start laughing. hehehehe. and then Joe was like, "ok. serious... come on! serious!" and he was trying so hard not to laugh while she was laughing, and the look on his face was so funny. ...and then when they actually did kiss- ooooh, great kiss, hehe.

I'm a 47 year-old male, and I don't usually like using the term "cute" to describe sitcom episodes that I like....

However, "cute" is the best way to describe that "Friends Or Lovers?" episode...."cute" and FUNNY!

Joe and Helen's rather shy and awkward "Should we or shouldn't we get involved with each other?" relationship gives real appeal to these early episodes, as well as to the characters themselves...and makes the sexed-up raunchiness of later episodes all the more obvious and (at times) unpleasant to watch.

yeah, pilotguy, I think "cute" is a great word to describe it. hehe.

although, I think a lot of episodes are cute.... But then again, I used the word "cute" entirely too much. Yet, I do think practically everything in the world is cute... so hmmm....
that was confusing.

and yeah, I enjoy that shy and awkward "should we or shouldn't we get involved with each other" thing they have going on in early episodes.

Joe and Helen did have such a cute relationship early on.

Ouch!

I actually like all of the story development between Joe and Helen. I always thought it was a natural progression of the characters as they got married....you couldn't sustain the awkward early courtship....that would have become quite dull and once they moved to married life, it still worked for me.

Of course, once Joe and Helen were married you couldn't expect them to keep acting like a couple of awkward high school kids....physical familiarity was to be expected....

It was everybody ELSE on that show who constantly needed cold showers in those final seasons that bothered me!

The Brian and Casey thing especially.

I never cared for that......I still wish the writers had come up with something more for Brian to do, but I guess right after the Alex story had concluded they didn't want to repeat themselves or have another relationship for him to pursue....still wish they had thought up something else.

yeah. It bothered me too- It just bugged me how when Brian and Casey just had random sex with each other for no reason other than that they were near each other and didn't have anything else to do.
You know, I wish that Brian could have at least been in a stable, long-term relationship by the time the show ended. It was kinda sad that he wasn't. I know his character was always known as kind of fickle when it came to women, but it did seem like someday he would settle down, but the way they left it at the end of the series is as if he would never settle down, even though in the last couple seasons, it seemed like he wanted to...
I don't know. I'm rambling.

I would like to have seen both Brian and Antonio finally settle down with someone by the end of the series too.

FAY AND ROY? Are you KIDDING? Those two would have ended up KILLING each other!

Remember when Roy hogged the seat at the Streisand concert and Fay didn't get to see ANY of it? Remember what she did to Roy the next morning? ("Don't even LOOK for the Streisand memo pad!).

And how about those early episodes when they would get into an argument and start swinging at each other? (Remember Roy's line, "Come on, Granny, give it your best shot!").

No, I just don't think that those two kids would have been able to make a go of it!

Hi everyone, I haven't been to the board for a little while, and just wanted to comment on this episode...I thought it was so adorable, and that part was so funny..."when I'm sleeping you dance through the Netherlands"

He looked so cute when he said that...I love the sort of first date shyness that they had, like in that scene where Joe is asking her out on a date, even though they've known each other almost all their lives! I really love these early Joe and Helen episodes...they're among my very favorite episodes. Oh, and I'm so annoyed that I don't get to see the next one until this weekend!
