Default jeff zuckers mistake

hello this may or may not belong here but my persnol feeling is jeff zucker is making one mistake hes letting his pr personal feelings cloud his judgment by that i mean i think becasue some of the programs kelsey prodcued like the inlaws tanked in the ratings for nbc last year he just wants to be rid of him once and for all and i think hes upset with him self because every time kelsey producesus a show for another network it seemes to get hlafway decenet ratings like girlfriends on upn from what ive read he had to buy that show as part of ther deal with kelsey a few years ago and he turned it down imean had a chance to buy the show and he turned it down but yet he picks losers that kelsey porducres like in laws and lets the winners get away ill say this much for him the olny thing that is saving his job is the joey spin off deal because once fraisers gone nbc is going to lose alot of smart veriwers that they like because alot of the seme po people who watch this show di dont nesserlay want to watch his over hyped realaty trash

I was not being disrespectful. I was only stating my opinion. Sorry if you thought differently.

Not to be rude or anything.
But next time you post, can you please use periods. My eyes get dizzy with so many words around each other.

I have absolutely *no* respect for Zucker, but I doubt if the scenario that you have laid out is one of realistic fact. I do think he is part of the corporate problem at NBC and is definitely someone who exemplifies the unoriginal thinking that the suits at NBC corporate have perfected over the last few years. But to say that it is akin to a personal vendetta because of Grammar's shows that he has produced, well - I will need more proof than just someone saying it is. Have you some source of information to back up your claims?

What is known and can be verified (in magazines like Journal of Broadcasting, Media Weekly etc.) is that after the federal laws were passed to loosen the regulations that govern network ownership of individual television programmes, NBC became much more interested in promoting their "own" shows (like Will and Grace) and it is clear that they gave shows like that preferential treatment over older shows like Frasier (ones that had a loyal fan base but not the highest rating numbers like Friends) because those newer shows had a *much* higher profit share for the network.

What else is true is that Frasier's dip in the ratings happened just when Zucker took over and moved the show off of Thursdays and onto the much less viewed Tuesday night. This happened long before "The In-Laws". Frasier was dumped on by NBC (Zucker included) because they couldn't make as much profit as they could from W&G etc. and once the network had its proper number of shows for syndication there wasn't any reason for it to support the show. They purposely sabotaged the show making sure that if anything did do well it was immediately moved away from Tuesday night.

As far as Girlfriends goes - I just can't see that show being in NBC's lineup especially where "The In-Laws" was on the schedule. That could have easily be the reason why he passed on it, right? Besides, lots of shows are written, piloted and even run and then fail BIG TIME, so "The In-Laws" wasn't unique in that respect (a lot of very good shows fail too or ones with spotless "pedigrees").

Zucker is an ass - no doubt, but let's criticize him for what he *has* actually done, not just on supposition and innuendo.

BTW - Although I enjoyed having you post your ideas and was very interested in what you had to say, I also found it difficult to read your post as well. Please next time (and I do hope you continue to post - this forum needs some more serious posters like you), take some time to edit your comments for spelling, punctuation and grammar. When you have a serious, thoughtful message like you have posted, it is a shame to muddy it up with such poor form. Thanks. :-))

NBC isn't *pushing* Frasier out the door this year, per say. The show was slated to end in 2004 when they signed their last contracts way back in 2000 (which is also coincidentally is the *exact* time that the lack of support started). It is rather silly that the rest of the media is just now finally catching on to this well-established fact - it isn't anything sudden or unplanned. What NBC *did* do is, from that point on they created an atmosphere where Frasier wouldn't flourish and didn't support it when it needed it. It makes me so frustrated to hear so-called "pundits" and some fans carp about how the show has gone down the drain (and they point to the falling ratings as *proof*!!). They blame the writers, they blame the actors, they blame the producers - but NBC rarely gets the proportional blame that they deserve! Network support is *critical* for all but the most rarified shows and often it pays off big, but corporate thinking is sooooo narrow that they seldom see that.

BTW - you don't have to be a "good speller" to clean up your posts - just use the spellchecker button on your computer... it isn't difficult at all. :-))

Oh, I agree fully with you there! :-))

I've been arguing that for ages. But it has dropped in the ratings (for reasons which I explained previously that have little to do with the quality of the writing, acting or other such factors IMO).

It is the only thing I watch on a regular basis on T.V. (except for news, hockey and The Antiques Roadshow).
