I'm discovering Sanford and Son for the first time in a way.Because when I was a kid I didn't like this show. I think it was because it was geared toward adults. I remember my parents watching this and laughing their heads off. I just didn't get it.
Now, as an adult I get the humor and it's great! Fred can just stand there and not say a word and he cracks me up!

If only I could afford them.
I'm working on my I Love Lucy collection at the moment. I will just have to make due with TVLand for now. |

I think it's hard for kids to follow the humor of the show, just like for "All in the Family" and "The Jefferson's" (probably because all are shows in which the starring characters can be crude, and although it was somehow accepted in the 70's, kids just didn't get it). I was born in the 70's, and MUCH preferred to watch Sesame Street than any of the 70's sitcoms (Three's Company and Happy Days were the only ones I could tolerate, until Diff'rent Strokes came along, which I very much loved).
But now as an adult I definitely get a lot of laughs out of some those 70's sitcoms...ESPECIALLY Sanford and Son! |

ITA. You just named my fave shows from childhood.(Three's Company, Happy Days and Diff'rent Strokes.)
I remember thinking Archie and Fred Sanford were just gripey and mad all the time. Now I see the humor. Very dry. They were so abrupt about things and to a kid (at least me) that came acrossed as anger. I mean serious anger not funny. |
