Default CBS Pilot News

John Goodman (Roseanne) to star in a sitcom for CBS in 2004. The premise is yet to be determined, but knowing that it will be on CBS, you know that it will likely be a domestic setting.

Let's see....

It's on CBS and John Goodman is a heavy guy.Let's give him a hot wife who he would never be able to get in real life and have them fight and stuff each week. What an original idea!

Each of the networks seem to be having the same shows on their network. For example...

NBC:
A group of 20something or 30something friends who live in the same apartment building. Episodes are usually about their quests for love in the big city, usually with seasons ending with births, weddings, or wedding proposals.
Examples: "Friends," "Will & Grace," "The Single Guy," "Some of My Best Friends"

CBS:
Dumb but lovable husband who is a little on the heavy side (exception being Raymond) who has a younger, more attractive wife who always tells him off.
Examples: "The King of Queens," "Everybody Loves Raymond," "Still Standing," "Yes Dear" (and I'm surprised "According to Jim" isn't on CBS!)

ABC:
Never really had a pattern, except for the pattern in the late 80s/early 90s with family-friendly, but somewhat corny, shows. This pattern is making a small return, but with more flavor and less preachiness.
Examples of current shows: "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter," "My Wife and Kids," "George Lopez"

FOX:
Never had much of a pattern either. Basically shows that appeal to teenagers. The more adult shows have lots of spontaneaus(sp?) comedy, such as "Wanda at Large" and the upcoming "Luis."

WB:
Again, not much of a pattern with sitcoms, but a VERY noticable pattern with dramas.

ABC seems to be getting more variety for the 2003-2004 season. "Hope & Faith" seems to be a new type of "Laverne & Shirley" show. "It's All Relative" is going to take time for me to like, and chances are, I'm not going to like it anyway. "I'm with Her" belongs on NBC. "Married to the Kellys" seems to be Fox-ish to me.
