EPISODE 1

[Setting: Julia & Andrew’s Apartment. They are both sitting at the kitchen table.]
Julia: Did Rachel tell you when she was getting back from Montreal?
Andrew: I’m pretty sure she said today.
Julia: Did you hear what happened to her?
Andrew: No, what happened?
Julia: They lost her luggage, and her purse got stolen.
Andrew: Is she alone in Montreal?
Julia: Yeah, but Hayley said she would go along… I guess Rachel wanted to go alone.
Andrew: Why is she there anyways?
Julia: Her mom said something really important came up and she needed to talk to her.
(The doorbell rings, and Julia gets up to get the door.)
Julia: Hey Mike! We’ve been waiting for you.
Andrew: Yeah, where have you been?
Mike: Well… I had to help Jake move into his apartment.
Julia: Why didn’t he come here with you?
Mike: He still had some stuff to move. Is Rachel home yet?
Julia: No… not for another half hour.
Andrew: If she makes it back alive!
Mike: What happened to her?!
Julia: Her luggage and purse got stolen.
Mike: Really? That’s terrible!
(The doorbell rings again, and Mike gets the door.)
Mike: Hey guys, come on inside.
Phoebe: Hey everyone…
Jake: Don’t mind her, she’s in a horrible mood.
Julia: You look horrible, what happened?
Phoebe: I got in a fight outside.
Mike: With who?
Phoebe: These people that keep following me everywhere. I don’t know who they are.
Jake: I had to come and get her out of trouble.
Julia: Hayley was supposed come with you… did you forget to tell her?
Phoebe: No, she called and said she was at the bar.
Andrew: Hey that sounds like a good place to be right now.
Jake: Yeah, we should go there instead of staying here!
Mike: But Rachel isn’t home yet.
Julia: We can leave her a note.
Mike: Nah, I’ll just stay and wait for her. I’ll catch up with you guys later.
Julia: Are you sure?
Mike: Yeah, it’ll be fine. You guys just go.
Andrew: Alright then, let’s hurry up! I need a drink!

[Scene: Julia & Andrew’s Apartment, Three Hours Later. Mike & Rachel are sitting on the couch. Rachel just arrived.]
Mike: Where have you been?
Rachel: I left later than expected… and I took the bus.
Mike: What?! Why didn’t you fly home?
Rachel: I didn’t have enough money.
Mike: But your family does!
Rachel: If I had a family, then maybe.
Mike: What do you mean? I thought that’s who you went to see…
Rachel: I wish. I don’t know my real family anymore.
Mike: I don’t understand what you mean…
Rachel: My whole childhood was one big lie after another.
Mike: But I thought you had a happy childhood?
Rachel: I thought I did… I really did.
Mike: So then what has changed?
Rachel: My biological mother is not the same woman who has been with my father for the last twenty-three years. And my father is just telling me this now.
Mike: Did he say who your real mom is?
Rachel: No, he won’t tell me.
Mike: Didn’t they give you money to get home on a plane?
Rachel: No… I walked out of the house right after I heard. I can’t talk to them.
Mike: So you’re never going back then?
Rachel: Not ever.
Mike: Rachel… I’m so sorry. I don’t know what to say.
Rachel: I don’t know what to say either.
Mike: Well… can I get you something to drink then? Maybe you just need to relax first.
Rachel: No, I’m fine.
Mike: Well then what do you want?
Rachel: I just want you to be here. You don’t have to say anything, just be here.
Mike: Then that’s what I’ll do.
(Mike & Rachel hug each other.)

[Scene: The bar. Andrew, Julia, & Jake are talking.]
Andrew: Where are they?!
Julia: Don’t worry about them, they’re fine.
Jake: I think we all know what they are doing.
Julia: Excuse me?
Jake: You know what I meant.
Andrew: Man, how many beers have you had? You’ve been drunk for at least an hour.
Jake: I’m not drunk, I never get drunk.
Julia: Well then, what are you now then?
Jake: Pleasantly sober.
Andrew: Well, we should go then… Mike and Rachel aren’t coming.
Jake: What? We just got here!
Julia: We got here four hours ago…
Jake: Well, it’s still only ten o’clock.
Andrew: Come on Jake, we’re going home.
Julia: I’ll get Hayley and Phoebe.
Jake: So then am I driving home?
Andrew: No, I’ll drive home.
Jake: But I drove here.
Andrew: I know, but you’re drunk. Can I have the keys, please?
Jake: Andrew, I’m not drunk! I swear!
Andrew: Alright then, but I’m still driving home.
Jake: Only if you believe that I’m not drunk.
Andrew: Fine! I believe you.
Jake: Good… here are the keys.
(The girls walk over by Jake & Andrew.)
Hayley: Hey do you think Mike and Rachel will be mad we didn’t call them?
Julia: I don’t think so… they could have called us also.
Phoebe: Hey, is that Greg over there?
Hayley: Hey it is! He’s with Denise!!
Andrew: Have they been dating?
Phoebe: Oh man, I hope not!
Hayley: Why?
Phoebe: I want Greg for myself!
Hayley: So go over and talk to him.
Phoebe: No, I don’t wanna!
Hayley: Fine then, I will.
(Hayley starts walking over.)
Phoebe: Wait! I’m coming too!
(They both walk over by Greg and Denise.)
Hayley: Hey Greg!
Greg: Oh… hey Hayley.
Hayley: So how have you been?
Greg: Pretty good, but… well, we were just going to head out.
Phoebe: Is there somewhere you have to go?
Denise: Yeah. My apartment.
Hayley: Oh, well, can I call you sometime?
Denise: He’s pretty busy this week.
Phoebe: She asked him, not you.
Denise: But I know him more than anyone. Right Gregory?
Greg: Well, I guess you can call me if you want.
(Denise gives Greg a deep glare.)
Denise: Well, if you wanna go that route, I could just go home without you…
Phoebe: That sure would be the best route to go!
Denise: Well Greg, what’s it gonna be?
Greg: Well… umm… I’ll catch you later, okay Hayley?
Denise: That’s my boy. Let’s go home now and celebrate your good decision.
(Greg & Denise walk out of the bar.)
Phoebe: She makes me sick!!
Hayley: He makes me hot.
(Julia walks over.)
Julia: Well, are you guys ready now?
Phoebe: Yeah, we definitely are.
Julia: Did you guys wanna go over to my place or go home?
Hayley: Actually, I think we need to go home. I’ve got to be somewhere early tomorrow.
Julia: Well, okay then… I’ll see you guys tomorrow then?
Phoebe: Yeah… see ya.
(Julia walks out of the bar.)
Phoebe: What was that all about?
Hayley: What?!
Phoebe: Why were you so rude to Julia? Greg is a jerk, you need to move on already.
Hayley: You’re just saying that because you like him too.
Phoebe: That is not true!
Hayley: Let’s go home, I need to sleep.

[Scene: Mike’s Apartment. Mike & Rachel are on the couch.]
Rachel: This was really nice of you.
Mike: It’s no problem… you’re a friend.
Rachel: But no one else would have done this for me.
Mike: Yes they would have.
Rachel: But not as well as you.
Mike: Well… thanks then, I guess.
Rachel: I wanted to ask you something.
Mike: Yeah sure, what is it?
Rachel: Can I stay the night?
Mike: Uhh… sure, if you want. You can use the bed in Jake’s old room.
Rachel: But that’s not where I wanted to sleep.
Mike: Oh… did you wanna just use the couch then?
Rachel: No.
Mike: Well then… where?
Rachel: In your bed.
(Mike gets up off the couch.)
Mike: In my bed?
Rachel: Yes!
Mike: But… why?
Rachel: I need someone. I need someone badly.
Mike: Need someone for what?!
Rachel: To sleep with.
Mike: Whoa, Rachel… We’re friends. That would ruin our friendship.
Rachel: No it wouldn’t. It would be fun.
Mike: Yeah, probably, but… I can’t.
Rachel: Why not? Don’t you like me?
Mike: Rachel, look. I’m one of your friends. We have a good relationship. Why would we want to ruin it?
Rachel: But I’m sad… and vulnerable.
Mike: I know you are, which is why I’m glad you came home right away.
Rachel: Are you sure you don’t want to?
Mike: I’m positive.
Rachel: Fine. But can I still sleep in your bed? I want to feel safe.
Mike: Yeah, you can.
(The doorbell rings. Mike gets the door.)
Mike: Oh… hey Jake.
Jake: I forgot something, can I come in?
Mike: Can’t you just come and get it tomorrow? It’s late.
Jake: No, I need it now!
Mike: Fine, come in.
Rachel: Hey Jake!
Jake: <surprised> Uh… hey Rachel. What are you doing here?
Rachel: I’m sleeping over at Mike’s!
Jake: Oh really… well, I just needed to get something then I’ll leave you guys alone.
(Jake walks into his old room.)
Rachel: How come they didn’t call us earlier?
Mike: They probably forgot.
Rachel: Oh well.
(Jake walks back out of his old room.)
Jake: Well, I’ll get going then.
Rachel: Bye Jake!
Mike: Let me walk you out…
(They walk into the hall outside Mike’s apartment.)
Mike: It’s not what you think.
Jake: Are you sure? It looks like something to me!
Mike: She just wants to feel safe. So she’s sleeping over. Something bad happened to her.
Jake: What happened?
Mike: I’ll tell you tomorrow, it’s a long story.
Jake: Alright then. Whatever you say. Later.
Mike: Later…
(Michael turns to face in his apartment, and sees Rachel sitting there, looking happy.)
