Over the weekend, I listened to the Cousin Brucie Show on the radio while I was down to White Plains, Pat St. John was filled in for Bruce when he was talking about today in music history, "Soul Train" was debuted at a Chicago TV station in 1970. The show is still the longest running R&B and soul dance show in the history of all variety shows. Don Cornelious was the host of the show. That what the show "Soul Train" began to come on board. here's a question. When does the "Soul Train" shows comes out on DVD?

I disovered rthis answer in the Sylvers Yahoo! Group explaining why shows like Soul Train and AB are Not on DVD or anything:
Hello All, I hate to rain on this idea, but it is not that easy to put shows on DVD's. Just to produce a Anniversary show you have to get permission or release forms from all of the parties involved, ALL The entertainers have to agree and sign a release form, or settle on an amount of royalties to be paid. Most of the time when a company releases DVD's the actors, or entertainers have agreed upon a certain amount to be paid to them for the sales of the DVD. In the case of AB they would have to not only locate all of the entertainers that were on the shows but also figure out a fee or residual to be paid to them, and then figure how many points are to be paid per sale of each copy. If the DVD has at least ten episodes of AB on it then that money has to be split by all parties involved. This can get into lots of research lots of contracts and lots of money, because all parties may not agree to the contract. TV shows are easier because you have less people involved, but shows like AB and Soul Train could be costly and hard to recupe any money back for the artist involved. Just imagine how little money the artist would make per DVD, when you think about how little they make per CD. I really wish Soul Train and AB would just re-air their old shows on Nick at Nite, and VH1. That would be the most rewarding for both the fans and all people involved. But then they are still suppose to pay royalities to the artist and get some type of release form as well, but it would not be as difficult because they would not be selling the product just showing it. I hope this helps to explain why these shows are rarely re-produced to any type of re-sell or mass production. Peace |
