TV/VCR Recording..? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Ok, well today, Adelphia was messing around with the town cable. The bad side was the TV came in crappy (if at all) all day. The plus? NEW STATIONS!!

Food Network, FX!!! (90210!!!), -I have to look for the Game Show Network. If we get it.. Ill just die., etc.. anyways, they switched to digital 2 weeks ago and our TV in the parlor is not Cable-Ready. So, in order to get all the stations, we have to use the VCR. Well, when you record, the TV always has to be on channel 3, as does the VCR channel. But, since we're watching the TV from the VCR... can we record shows? If we wanted, we can get the NEW box, for $7.50 extra each month. My Dad says no way- why do that when we get all the stations? Well, if we cant record I told my mother Ill pay for it myself. We used to get cable upstairs too, but when we were getting our house sided, my Dad didnt know all the wires were outside... so he cut them-- WHICH WAS THE CABLE FOR UPSTAIRS! *screams* So basically this TV down here (the one out here is on the computer) is the only one recordable. *dies* I need to be able to record my shows.

Since you're using the VCR to watch TV, you're going to have to watch everything you record, meaning that you're not going to be able to record a program and watch something else at the same time, unless what you want to watch is on channels 2-13. In that case, you can turn your VCR's signal off using the "TV/VCR" button and watch the other channel.

Does that make sense? I tried to ramble there as little as possible.

Yah, that really didnt make too much sense to me lol. I dont understand the whole record something and watch something at the same time..? Say Good Times is on @ 7pm tonight and I want to watch it.. will I be able to record it too? Thank you for explaining!

Where do you live? I have Adelphia as well.

My downstairs TV is where I have that digital box they give you. I can only tape what I watch, I can't watch one channel and tape another. If I want to tape Lifetime, WB and Goodlife while I'm at work I have to set my downstairs TV to one of those channels and that is all I can tape. Now upstairs I have one of those TV/VCR combo's and it's basic cable connection. I can't watch one/tape another up there but I can switch channels in the programming so I can tape multiple channels while I'm at work. Make sense?

Ohh.. yes that makes sense to me thank you LOl. I just dont know if I can record with the VCR seeing how the VCR wont be on channel 3. I live in Danville NH.

My TV is on channel 3 and so is my VCR but my VCR is on the TV/VCR mode. YOu have to wire that box to your VCR and your VCR to your TV. Whatever channel you put on that digital box is the channel it is going to record.

Yes, you will be able to watch it and record it, but generally, you can't record it and watch something else at the same time. If you record "Good Times," you have to watch it, too.

LOl.. I dont have the digital box- thats the thing. Our TV in the parlor is not cable ready so we have to use the VCR to watch cable stations. If I want it on TVLAND, the VCR has to go on channel 71-- not the TV. Thats why I was confused if I can still record tv shows, because normally the VCR channel is set to channel 3, and I know that if its on a different station before, itd come in snowy.
