Thumbs up

I'm grateful to TV Land because I was able to watch the entire run of Barney Miller last year. I had never seen the show before.
I've watched The Dick Van Dyke Show over and over, and I enjoyed The Bob Newhart Show too.
I've recently rediscovered Bewitched, and I'm loving it.
That's my only real experience with TV Land.

Sitcomwriter, those shows did not even exist ten years ago. They are no regular classics...probably not modern TV classics either...

My answers...

1) What shows do you watch on TV Land?
"Charlie's Angels" (1976-1981)
"Fantasy Island" (1978-1984)
"Bewitched" (1964-1972)
"Sanford & Son" (1972-1977)
"Hazel" (1961-1966)
"Dennis the Menace" (1959-1963)
"The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show" (1950-1958)
"Mary Tyler Moore" (1970-1977, whenever I'm up early enough)
"The Dick Van Dyke Show" (1961-1966, for this week anyways...)
"Inside TVLand"/"ET in TVLand"
And Box Sets if something good is in them...

2) What TV Land shows do not watch?
Everything else...mainly because I'm not up to watch them

3) What TV Land shows do you think have been overplayed (name all of them please)?
"Sanford & Son," "The Brady Bunch," "Happy Days," "The Andy Griffith Show," "Leave it to Beaver"

4) What CLASSIC TV shows do you think have been rarely played over the last 10 years?
"Alice" - Well not really rarely. It aired a few years on E! then some on TNN. It's been gone for 3 years now...
"Flamingo Road" - Has been airing on Goodlife TV Network for the last 2 1/2 months. TVLand has the rights to it, they should put it on weekends in place of Gunsmoke.
"Angie" - I want to see this show!

5) What are your suggestions/comments/praises to TV Land?
TVLand, I love your channel, but some changes seriously need to be made. Add some variety with your shows. Ever since N@N premiered in 1985, it seems as if the same group of shows are played on at least one channel. You know the group of shows I'm talking about...."I Love Lucy," "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "Mary Tyler Moore," "Happy Days," "The Brady Bunch," "Gilligan's Island," "Bewitched," "I Dream of Jeannie," and the list could go on anf on. I saw add in some shows that ran for a long time in their original runs that haven't been seen much. The shows that I listed above, the shows in "the group," have become pop culture classics because they are always rerun somewhere! "The Brady Bunch" never got great ratings in its original run, but people praise it! I say bring in some shows like "The Lucy Show," "Alice," "One Day at a Time," "Julia," "Maude," "What's Happening!!!" and other shows like that. You might be saying that those shows wouldn't bring in ratings because people don't remember them, but remember that back when N@N premiered in 1985 and when TVLand premiered in 1996, the shows on both networks' first schedules for shows many people had forgotten. Now look at how people love them.....

1) What shows do you watch on TV Land? Just about everything, except for...

2) What TV Land shows do not watch? MacGuyver, Charlie's Angels, Bob Newhart, Soap, The Waltons, Gunsmoke, Bonanza

3) What TV Land shows do you think have been overplayed (name all of them please)? The Andy Griffith Show, Happy Days, The Brady Bunch, Gunsmoke, The Waltons, Gilligan's Island, Soap

4) What CLASSIC TV shows do you think have been rarely played over the last 10 years? (This comment can only encompass 3 1/2 years, the years I've been watching classic shows) Here's Lucy, The Facts of Life, Green Acres, Carol Burnett & Friends, Batman, Petticoat Junction, The Lucy Show, Mork & Mindy, Laverne & Shirley, Diff'rent Strokes

5) What are your suggestions/comments/praises to TV Land? A complete revamp. Keep the good shows that HAVEN'T BEEN OVERPLAYED (Mary Tyler Moore, Batman, etc.) and add the ones that have been rarely played. Play all shows without commericals between acts, and then run the commercials all at once AFTER the CREDITS. (Keep sitcoms and dramas unedited if possible). And, for god's sakes, give the original Trek a steady slot instead of sci-fi Channel's random Trekness. Bring back the Saturday morning cartoon block. Get rid of those boring "TV about TV" shows. Bring back Fandemonium marathons, but have them every Thursday. Bring back Box Sets. Add a Modern Classics block for weekends with shows from N@N. Show obscure and short-lived shows on weekends as well. And, more retromercials! Add some classic gameshows also.

5) TV Land, I think you are doing a fairly good job of giving us viewers Classic TV. What I suggest is don't "overplay" shows to the ground because afterwhile people get sick of them. Instead, air some of the rare classics out that haven't been aired in a long time. But at the same time keep those TV Classics such as I Love Lucy, Happy Days, The Munsters, ect. available to us. We still like them too.

The shows that i watch on TV Land are welcome Back, Kotter, Sanford and Son, Barney Miller, thanks to Tv Land, I became a fan of these two shows that I just mentioned, Bob Newhart Show.

Shows that I do not watch are the following
Gunsmoke,(I cannot not stand Westerns) The Waltons (Boring)
Leave it to Beaver, The Brady Bunch (Seen every episode like a zillion times,).

TV Land shows too much of the following shows.
Happy Days
leave It to Beaver
Sanford and Son, if though I am a fan of both Happy Days and Sanford and Son, just showing the program once is enough, not four times a day. It becomes rather tedious watching the same program over and over again.

I would love to see the following shows, that you rarely see on television.
Chico and the Man
Maude
Good Times
What's Happening
Rhoda
Alice

Most the shows I watch on TV Land, are rarely played, so I watch them whenever I can.

1) "TV Land Kitschen", "Box Sets", "Better Living Through Television", "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", "Get Smart", "The Munsters", "Sanford and Son", "Charlie's Angels", "Batman", "Fantasy Island", "ET in TV Land", "Inside TV Land".

2) Everything else that I haven't listed above.

3) "Leave It To Beaver", "The Brady Bunch", "Happy Days", "Gilligan's Island", "I Love Lucy", "The Andy Griffith Show", "Bewitched", "I Dream of Jeannie", "Soap", "Square Pegs", "Gunsmoke".

4) "The Lucy Show", "Car 54 Where Are You?", "The Addams Family", "That Girl", "F Troop", "Family Affair", "The Many Loves of Dobie Gills", "The Patty Duke Show", "One Day At A Time", "What’s Happening", "Room 222", "Rhoda", "Phyllis", "The Betty White Show", "Alice", "Archie Bunker’s Place".

5) There are many things I would like to see done on your channel, I would like for TV Land to keep all of their shows uncut. Knock-out the split-screen credits and voice-overs from the closing credits, deduct "Twice as Nice" block from your line-up, and add more variety, meaning air shows that haven't aired for at least 5-10 years. Go back to your pioneer days were during break you would play just retromercials and network promos, the last thing you need are commercials and paid programming. Make your "TV Land Kitschen" block 1 or 2 hours longer and air it every night.

I have more suggestions/comments/ideas...

TVLAND KITCHSEN

Put the Kitschen on every night, like Impressions said, and kinda make it more of like short-lived shows with the schedule changing every week. For example...

all times central (as if I had to say it)

August 11 - August 15, 2003

10pm: "The Ropers"
10:30: "Angie"
11pm: "My Mother the Car!"
11:30: "That's My Mama!"
12am: "Filthy Rich"
12:30: "Day by Day"

August 18 - August 22, 2003

10pm: "Life with Lucy"
10:30: "Gloria"
11pm: "Flo"
11:30: "Getting By"
12am: "F Troop"
12:30: "Phyllis"

The general idea is to put those "This Week in the TVLand Kitschen" to real use by changing the schedule of short-lived shows every week. Shows like "Kotter," "Soap," "Mary Hartman Mary Hartman," and "My Favorite Martian" ran too long to be only aired twice a week. "Mary Hartman" should be shown twice a day, seven days a week. The show had 325 episodes, and if they aired it twice a day seven days a week, they would go through it in under 1 1/2 years. "Soap" should be shown once a day, seven days a week, along with "Kotter." They both ran only four seasons each. MFM ran for three seasons, 1963-1966, and could be shown once a day five days a week.

BETTER LIVING THROUGH TELEVISION

For God's sake, put it on later during the day! It comes way too early and I'm usually never up early enough to watch it. Start it at 10am. That way it would lead into the hour of Jeannie then the Box Set. No need for "MacGyver" and "Gunsmoke." Drop both "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Leave it to Beaver" from BLTTV. Put in "The Donna Reed Show." Drop "I Love Lucy" from it also. Since most of the BLTTV shows lasted 5+ seasons, it would be wise to also back them up with slots throughout the week, or along the weekend.

DAYTIME

Remember when they had Midday Dramas? "Emergency!," "Adam 12," "Dragnet 67," and "The A-Team." They lost the rights to all but TAT, and that already airs on Spike TV (is it still there?). They should put "Charlie's Angels" and "MacGyver" in the daytime slots of 11am and 12pm. They should do something different also, by airing classic episodes of "The Young and the Restless," which is owned by Sony. All of the episodes, starting with the first from March 26 1973, are there, so they could air it like it was brand new. They were 30 minutes for most of the 70s, so they would get through that time in like 3 years. The hour-long airings would be a different story though...maybe a daytime slot then a slot later in the afternoon like 5pm?

TELEVISION ABOUT TELEVISION

"Inside TVLand" and "ET in TVLand" are both good shows, imo. They provide lots of good information on our favorite classics. Thanks to "ET in TVLand," I got a taste of "Knots Landing" and "Dynasty." I think they should do away with "TVLand Legends" because that, in my opinion, is pretty boring. Maybe they could air it occasionally. They can air "Inside" and "ET" on Saturday nights in primetime. Each week would be a new episode. When they run out of ET episodes, they could make new ones or rerun some of them.

MORE SHOW SUGGESTIONS...

They have the rights to "Falcon Crest." It ran for nine seasons and is a hell of a lot better than the other Hamner show that has been airing for years (coughTHEWALTONScough). Air it in place of "Fantasy Island," which could be moved an hour earlier.
